Probably getting a used 2009 Super 8 150
« on: July 05, 2011, 07:38:54 PM »
On my commute in, 12 mi one way, finding that the hills and a couple 45mph posted roads weren't cutting it on the Agility 50 I have, which I really like, though.  So started looking for used alternatives on Craigslist and found a 2009 Super 8 150 with 2000 miles on it for less than $1500, so I'm' driving the 250 miles on Thurs to pick it up.  Should be a nice upgrade in terms of keeping up better with the 45 mph traffic, and climbing the few hills I have where I've experienced speed reductions to 20mph in some situations on the Agility 50.  The Super 8 150 is green.  Looks really sharp and clean.  I wasn't being too picky about other options and in fact also discussed with an older gentleman, a People 250S for $1950 with 7000 miles on it, and also a People 200S with 500 miles on it for $2100.

In the end, it came down to "how much scoot do I really need" for my use, which is the occasional scoot into work, then around my small town where the speed limit never goes aboe 30mph.  Then you figure in our shortened Wisconsin riding season, and it made sense to not really drop more than I am comfortable with and the Super 8 150 sems to fit just fine and hoping I'm making a wise choice.

I wonder what the weight limit would be on riding with a passenger if wifey wanted to scoot around town with me?  I'm 190 and wife is probably 140.

You will find the Super 8 to be a great improvement.  I have a shorter commute, but if you should have no problems.
I assume that you do not go on the freeway?
You and your wife should be happy riding together around town.
The seat is a little hard for my taste, but some foam can improve that.

Cheers

Hey Mr. Packer Guy,

I ride two hours a day every day for my commute in Arizona and love every minute. I do side streets instead of freeway, but I'm usually doing around 55 (65 indicated on the speedo).

My wife and I ride two up all the time and I'm 6'3", 240 lbs and she is 5'3" and 120 lbs. The S8 drags us all over the place up an down hills and never has complained once. :)

Enjoy your new ride!!

That's good to know, thanks.  Just got me cycle learner permit this morning and all set to get the Super 8 150 tomorrow with a U-Haul closed trailer.  Unfortunately, can't take the Mrs with me in WI until I get my full motorcycle license.

Got it and I Love it!  It's just what I was looking for - quicker acceleration and ability to keep up with 45 mph traffic.  Got a great price and it's in like new condition.

Question - the manual says the spedo is in either km or mph....this one's in mph.  It also says the odometer is km.  Is that right?  If so, my new Super 8 150 has 2000km/1240 which would be a bonus.

The Odo on my 09 S8 is in miles.  You may want to check yours.  If it's an 09 0r newer it's probably in miles.  The older ones were Kms

Yea, I checked it and it appears to be miles.

To the other poster, I have not had a chance to open it up yet.

OK, got it out on the county highway.  Hit 60mph on flat into a light wind.  Down to about 50-53 on hills.  This, on the scooter's spedometer.  Haven't checked it against the GPS.  Filled up on way back and figured 48 mpg.  Not too great.

Just curious if anyone knows if the Super 8 150s are made mainland China or in Taiwan.

pretty sure the s8 is made in China, but Kymco still does QC so it's not an issue.   The biggest issue with made in China scooters is the Quality Control.  The 2012's say "Made In China" on the front of the scooter.
