Tapping..
« on: August 04, 2011, 03:09:54 PM »
I am windering if the tappers on are too loose but I dont know if any of you know a diy way to regap them to the proper place it's supposed to be .04 for the intake and .06 for exhaust, I think.. wondering if there is a crafty way to messure it out.
Many thanks,
Brian

Feeler guages are pretty cheap to buy and considering you should check valve clearances every 2nd oil change you will get your moneys worth out of them.

Also, the manual says its 0.04 mm for both the intake and the exhaust.

TOO LITTLE!

Every scooter fabricant sais that too little distance will prevent the vents from closing, so it will lack compression, altso it will take alot of heat, and your engine could be ruined..

The proper distance for kymco agility 50 is 0.08 mm on both intake and exhaust :D
First Kymco agility 50 (2008) 11.000+ km (dead)
Second kymco agility 50 (2010) 20.000+ km. Project Fuel Injection. Stolen.
Kymco K-pipe 125 (2014) 7400 km.

Sorry if that was wrong size, thought that was the size, need to recheck my manual. Thought I remembered 0.04 bit maybe it was 0.08, I just did it what the kymco manual said, if it says 0.08 thats what i did then.

Feelers gauges should only be a couple of bucks, def under 10.

Baddi- my AG 50 manual says .04 but I've heard all sorts of things from different people about what they gap their clearences to. So I'm assuming you gap yours to .08 on both and it runs well? That's the biggest I've heard anyone running before.

In diffrent countrys, the manual sometimes sais diffrent things.. As when the first agilitys came out, the german manual said 0.05, but after some time, kymco send a warning to the distributers that it was too little, and since then, every manual has said 0.08. I dont know when your scooter was imported, but every mechanic i know sais that a little too much is better than too little, if you can survive hearing a little bit tapping. as only its not higher than 0.2, nothing should break :)

I just re-checked my manual and it says this,

Valve clearance - (cold) (mm) - Intake 0.04, Exhaust 0.04.

When i last checked mine (the 1st time i did it myself) It was set at 0.03 and 0.07 so i re-set it to both at 0.04mm.

I must admit it does sound a little more tappy i think but this could just be my imagination?

How long have you set your to 0.08 Baddi? Have you had any issues?

if you set it good while it is on compression, you cant hear it tapping.
