Who has the most Kilometers (miles)
« on: August 11, 2011, 01:03:48 AM »
I've got 13000 kilometers (8077 miles) with only one problem. My CDI died at around 6500 kilometers. Mines an 09 with the original belt and battery. Starts with the first push of the button unless it is really cold, say under 35 fairinheight. (i know spelling) I always change my oil every 1500 kilometers with full synthtic.

26K km.

- steering stem tends to get unscrewed every 5.000 kms
- dead turn on switch replaced under warranty
- burnt heated handgrips, twice, but this is aftermarket equipment. :)

Otherwise, too good to be true, seems to be solid (so far).

43,000 miles on an '05 ZX. Some of the body is original, Oh, and the aluminum wheels. The rear brake cable too. It had 13,000 on the clock when I got it. Forgot the frame, and seat. They are original.

Do you have any experience, what is expected life span of a 125 4stroke engine (Kymco's), that is properly maintained, driven on longer distances, oil changed every 2-3.000 kms?

I've seen 40kkm+, I wouldn't expect any problems before 50k, since most 50cc 2 strokes
will hit 30kkm before anything goes wrong. The 125s are usually not ridden WOT all the time
so that should help too.

The problem is that most scoots are destroyed/scrapped long before that, so there is not enough "forum collective experience" to statistically determine longevity of scoots...
Hence my question.  ;D

That's the KEY right there.
Like Axy said too: scoots are usually scraped long before being "worn out". In the broadest sense a scoot can last forever (replacing parts). In a constant running engine? It seems too subjective too answer.
There are thousands of scoots in India/Vietnam that have been running for decades with little or no OEM parts. So an educated guess? 2,500 hrs. before major component failure in a NEW constant running (scooter) engine. (Constant load/ cruise rpm)
I am basing that on wear dynamics of the components, and the protection provided by modern synthetic oils.
I am also referring to the top 5 scooter brands, NOT the cheap knock off engines.

Most of  high-mileage stuff that I've seen was back in 2004-2005 when I worked at
a local bike shop, and that's about the average I've seen and heard about.

I think any 125cc should do at least 30kkm even with poor maintainance.
I've seen an Agility 50cc 4 stroke go 17.000km without a single oil change
or fill-up, used by a postman, idling all day long. It probably just ran out of oil.

2,500 hrs. before major component failure in a NEW constant running (scooter) engine. (Constant load/ cruise rpm)

This is why usually for maritime purposes, service intervals are scheduled in hours...

I would say that AVERAGE speed of city-dwelling scooter regardless of displacement is around 35-40 km/h max.
This would roughly translate to 87.500-100.000 kms which is A LOT, but I know that 500-600cc thumpers can do 100K without problems, so probably 125cc can too.

We have a saying that I cannot translate to English, it would roughly mean "From your mouth to God's ears".
