Super 8 150 tune up
« on: August 22, 2011, 08:46:44 PM »
Hi you lot, i have been reading all the old posts, and cant find what i need. Please read and advise. My Super 8 150 runs nice, but bogs a little on hills. I have been thinking of adding a 4 valve head and better breathing and carb (bigger Jets). I cant find if anyone thinks the exhaust is too restrictive. I find a post where they think that noise is what you get from a new exhaust. Do any of you have an opinion. Thanks.

Your super 8 150 is a 4 stroke scooter , the only change you would make with an aftermarket exhaust is your scooter would be louder . Good luck .

thanks Juice loud i don't need. I wear ear plugs as it is, it sure makes a scooter sound better ? ;D
Any thoughts on a new head, would it be worth the $380 or so by the time i'm finished ?.

I don't know , maybe someone else here has tried it and can give more feedback . In general engine modifications have been known to adversely affect reliability in many cases . You might also look into variator tuning , a lot of people seem to have success with that and it is a lot less invasive . Good luck .

The stock shock absorbers and tires are the things that I would upgrade first - make it able to handle better at the speeds it can already go.  You won't give up any reliability, you will be able to go faster through most situations, including many that a hopped up engine with stock suspension will have to slow down for.  People that you ride with will be more impressed if you ride better than they do than if your engine is bigger.

Hi Justwanttoride, i know what you mean about shocks and ride. The shock spring is too stiff for a 195 lb rider, it is like riding a bucking horse. But new shocks are expensive. I have thought of going to a Wrecking yard and trying to get some old shocks of a small bike ?. What tires would you recommend ?.

The Super 8 150 is supposed to come with 100/80-14 on the front and 120/80-14 on the rear - but from what I've heard - some people have a combination of 120/70-14 and 120/80-14.

For the way I'd ride a Super 8 I'd say either a set of Michelin Pilot Sport, Avon Viper Strykes, or Pirelli Diablo's.  For the front I'd recommend a 120/70-14.  The rear has an exact fit for the 120/80-14, but I think a 140/70-14 would match the front better.
