My brake lights seem to be stuck on. *** Sorted Out ***
« on: August 24, 2011, 07:52:16 AM »
My brake lights seem to be stuck on.  After a late night ride I was turning the bike around in my driveway and when I hit the brakes I realized that the glow behind me didn't change.  It appears that the brake lights are stuck on.  The left lever makes a noticeable click which the right does not - so I'm suspecting it is the right lever's sensor that is to blame.

Anyone have this before?  So far I'm not impressed with this bike...

Can you start the engine without pulling a brake?

Good idea - and yes it does.

I checked both of the switches with a multimeter and they aren't shorting.  They both read open between the contacts, and close the connection as the lever is pulled.

Does the parking brake have a switch to activate the brake lights?  I tried setting and releasing the parking brake - and it made no difference.  Hmm...

And yes - I put it on the centerstand before starting it without the brake on...   ;)

***  Checked - no brake switch on the parking brake.

Got it.  As suspected it was the switch on the front brake.  I removed the switch (goodness it feels cheap).  When I operate it manually it works - so it was just not mounted correctly.  Oddly - the normal state is with the switch depressed, and released is when the brake light comes on.  Seems like a poor design because the spring will wear and fail faster.  Now I just need to put it back together to where it works...
