Disturbing Vibrating "ticking" Sound (People S200)
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:53:28 AM »
I have a People S200 with only about about 800 miles on it, and there is a vibrating "ticking" sound, very fast, that goes up and down with the engine speed, and seems worse after the engine has been warmed up for a while. Anybody else hear about anything like that?

I took the bike to the dealer and the mechanic said he didn't hear anything. But now its getting worse.

I was wondering if it might be that plastic fan on the side, because it sounds like its coming right from in there somewhere.

Terry - you'll get better help if you don't post the same question in multiple places.

Try feeling for the ticking.  Start the bike on the centerstand and have someone occasionally give it just a few revs.  Feel around on the bike and try to isolate where the ticking is coming from by where you feel it the strongest.  If it's something simple like a vibrating panel then you can definitely find it - of course that shouldn't get worse as it warms up...

I did all that. I can't "feel" anything loose. All I know is that it gets bad when its hotter, and when I stuck my head next to the hot engine yesterday, I could have sworn it was coming from where that fan on the side is, but I'm not 100% sure.

Well, I thought maybe I posted the first one the wrong section. I thought this section might be better.

Can you feel the ticking where you think you hear it?  Can you video it, put it on facebook or something and give us a link?  Not much else we can do remote.

Not really. Theres nothing to really video since I can't see anything wrong, and by the time it ticks real bad its too hot to touch.

I'm taking it back to the dealer today and I am not leaving without answers.

Well, everyome and his uncle at the dealership rode and listened to the scooter and they swear they hear nothing wrong. So I guess I could be wrong. And if I'm not, I guess they'll have to fix it if it blows up.
