Urgent Help - No Rear Red lights
« on: September 16, 2011, 10:43:26 PM »
Got on my scooter to go home and no red lights. No brake light or main light. Could it just be a blown bulb. Help needed fast. If it is the bulb can I pick one up from halfords in the UK.

Thanks

You could check your globes, but to have both brake and tail lights go out is a bit unusual, also, my ZX50 has two globes (I don't know about the AG50), if so it would be unlikely that both tail and brake go out on both globes, unless you have not checked them for a long time. Check you fuse first and then plug connections.

If the license plate light is on then it is probably the connector for the tail/stop light.  One bulb or 2 - it would be unusual to have both tail and stop light go out at once.  The license plate light is on the same fuse.

All sorted now. Popped down to a local store and got a replacement bulb, cost a massive 99p. It is a single brake and tail light bulb. 2 minute job to replace, only 2 screws to undo.

Next up is the one year service.

Thanks

Cool, sounds like you need to check your lights more often. ;)

When I start up at night I always look for the glow on the parcel rack area. I park in an area with no lights, I normally illuminate the building with it. Luckily I didn't leave the car park as I couldn't see the glow, I used my phone for light so I could check the fuses, they were fine. Ended up locking her up and getting a taxi.

Yeah, I wasn't very clear, but it is unusual for both to go together. What I was suggesting was that the brake light could have been gone for some time, you didn't notice it until the tail light went.
we recently had a similar issue with my wife's car, the right hand head light was blown so we replaced it, just the one, a few months later the left one went, we replaced that and then a few days later the right one went again. If we had waited before replacing the left one she would have had no low beams at all. This can cause unnesscary fault finding, who expects two lights to go together, so you start looking at fuses and wiring and relays, when all along it is two blown globes.
anyway, it is good policy to check regularly, could save someone running into the back of you.

As soon as I realised it was gone I didn't ride, until today when I went down 2 roads to the shop. Switched it out in the shops car park and away I went.

I'll definitely check all lights in the morning.

I usually check the lights on my bikes and scooter before the first ride of the day, funny thing there is that a light can go while riding and I probably won't notice it until the next day.
