Rough accelerating during take off
« on: September 18, 2011, 04:06:17 AM »
My agility 125 has a problem during take off from stop. It'll accelerate normally in low speed like 5 to 10 MPH then have a rough shaking engage in gear for about 1 to 2 second then go back to normal. It felt like the gear wasn't engaging smoothly but it's CVT and shouldn't have any gear. Once it get through roughness, everything is fine. It only happens during take off from stop. Anyone have the same problem and know how to fix it? Thanks.

Not again.

This was discussed in AT LEAST 3 other threads here.

Long story short: Pull in both brakes hard, open the throttle, let go of the brakes VERY SLOWLY and not completely.

That will make the clutch slip and burn a bit, and essentially fix the problem.
Repeat 2-3 times and it will be fine.

Your the expert on this topic, Cortez  8)

I had that problem but it eventually got better and better as I rode.  Now everything is super smooth.  Cortez's technique just speeds up this process  ;D

How many miles/km are on your scoot, mmaxima?  I was having the problem when mine was practically brand new (<2000km).  Now, at 4000km everything is fine.  I thought maybe that clutch had to be broken-in?

Hi,

I was able to find the older thread on the same problem after I post the article. I did try the tip Cortez mention. The slipping problem got little better but not completely gone. I probably need to try a few more times. It looks promising after seeing the articles here on the kymco forum. My bike is around 2100KM. I'll keep update on my issue. Thanks for all the reply.

I had the issue somewhere between 2900 and 3500km, and has never reappeared since
(got almost 20k now).

Just to give a quick update on the rough accelerating. Immediately applying the tip from Cortez, bike is smooth as if the problem is gone. The problem will come back but the roughness is progressively lessen. Now I just apply the fix when acceleration gets rough.

Just do not forget that thickness of clutch pads is not infinite. It is a few mm on A125, in fact... :)

Which should be enough for over 40.000km of city use, or even more, from the wear I saw recently.

Okay here it goes... my first post... and hopefully an answer getter...

I have something similar.  My problem just recently appeared, with 6085km on the scooter, when taking off from a stop it starts smooth then out of the blue like a shudder and then you feel almost a clunk like reaction as it jumps into drive.  For the lack of a better way of putting it.

I mean I can start out slowly then it shudders and then no noise but it like jumps into drive.

Can someone come ride my scooter and experience it since I can't seem to make it sound right.

Any how based on what I said will the clutch burn in method listed in this thread work to eliminate my shudder and jumping like it does?

dBuster - that's exactly how it was on mine, and yes, it helped.

Thanks for the reply!  I appreciate it!  I will try to do that before heading home tonight and see if it makes a difference otherwise I will have to try it tomorrow.

Any idea on a tutorial on replacing the roller weights??  Been reading about the DR weights here and am a little curious about replacing them.  Is there a good how to?  Tips or pointers to look out for when doing it??

If you have to ask, you probably don't have the special tools that you'll need so it's probably
a better idea to have someone else do it.

I had the same problem with the stock clutch from the time my bike was new about every 500 miles I had to clean and " burn in" my clutch so I bought a RUIMA clutch from PROVOSCOOTERS for $ 80 bucks with shipping and and a MRP stealth bell from SCOOTERTRONICS FOR $ 48 bucks with shipping and it works great. The clutch comes with 2000 rpm springs on it and I put a red [ 2000 rpm ] torque spring when I redid the clutch I lost some top end but the 0 to 60mph was greatly improved. I also have a DR PULLEY variator with 13gr sliders  and a MALOSSI KEVLAR BELT. look into it , its well worth the money   ,bthmtech
