What does a loose valve cover sound like?

if you think your valve cover is lose its only a few nuts and you can tighten up your self.but anyways if lose it well rattle a little and maybe vibration noise.

Do you mean the rocker cover??? if so then i imagine you would also be losing oil from top of engine as the oil gets splashed about alot up there by the rockers and cam....

Like Kisbee says if it was loose you would have oil dripping out it. Check ypu oil level if it is coming out cause you dont want to run dry. Doubt it would make any noise tho, just look for oil leaks at the edges of the cover. I usually put a little gasket sealer on mine when i che k my valves.

after reading these post I went out and checked my cover good thing it was leaking oil. just a little.

Mine was exactly the same blue, just put on a little gasket sealer and it will be fine.

Try looking athis video from you tube
although it shows valve clearance which you can ignore it does shows him removing the valve cover and the bolts involved should give you an idea, take note of the part about not tightening the bolts to much as i have snapped valve cover bolts in the past. As streido said if your gasket looks damaged or missing you could try using gasket sealent to give you a better seal or order a new gasket from ebay etc as you want a good seal to stop oil leaking....

I didnt even know it had a gasket ??? Mine has never had one fitted since i got it. Maybe the previous owner removed it and didnt bother fitting a new one? Thats why i always used sealer. Going on ebay later to order a gasket now i know im meant to have one. Take it everyone else has a gasket fitted?

Streido i was just looking at the kymco parts catalogue you uploaded and its part No. 12391-KEE1-900
so i assume we should have one but i have not had to remove my rocker cover yet so can not say for sure mine has got one but i would be very suprised if it did not, As you say the previous owner may not have replaced it as i think its probably rubber rather than cork so more vunerable to heat, may have fell apart when he removed the cover and so he just chucked it not realising the important part it plays. I have just looked on ebay i searched (139qmb gasket) it returned a seller selling one for £6.50 but for a extra pound or two there are sellers selling full gasket sets which includes head and exhaust gaskets etc which may work out better value as im sure the other gaskets would come in handy in the future....
