Big bore overheating
« on: October 03, 2011, 11:04:36 PM »
hello all, ok so I have a 2010 kymco like 50cc which is a 4
Stroke scooter. Setup with a performance exhaust and open air filter.
I have recently installed a 70cc airsal kit with a performance head.
The problem I having is that it is getting very hot, even at idle, the performance doesn't seem to be much better either.
I have messed around with jetting alot, and it still runs very hot so basically I can't
Run it for to long or it will overheat.
I have upped the spark plug from a heat range 7 to an 8 also.
What is causing this overheating??????
Is it possible that my carby and or intake manifold are to small and causing overheating?  The carby looks
About 17.5 mm and the intake manifold looks a few mm smaller than this.
Or is there something I did wrong on the install possibly.
Thankyou for any help!

I would think it's in the jetting.
OR the carb IS to small.. They don't put a bigger 17.5 on the stock kymcos, Alot come with 14mm or a 16mm

Find someone with similar mods and find out what their jetting is.  Use that as a baseline - or go richer until you start to get a dark plug.  Running lean will cause overheating and engine damage...

I don't think it is just the jetting that is the problem.
Is it possible my stock Cdi is the problem?possibly firing advanced causing the engine to overheat? Anybody have an issue like this?
