Oil light came on after a quick stop
« on: October 05, 2011, 12:40:18 PM »
I was driving home from work and I had to make a fairly quick stop (not an 'oh sh!t' stop).  I looked down and saw the oil light come on.  As soon as I gave it some throttle the light turned off.  When I got home I checked the oil level and it was fine.  This is the first time i've noticed this happen.  Any ideas as to why the light came on ?

have not had that happen yet. If you stop long and hard enough you can pull all the oil from the pickup. You then need to get the air pocket out from between the pickup and the pump (cavitation) and that is what happens when you up the revs.

If it bothers you hold the rear break and pull some, not wot, revs. This should alow the pump to fill back up. This is one of the problems encountered at times with such a small reserviour of oil................

It's just that it's never happened before since I'm a faily aggresive rider and have had a few quick stops.  There are a few stoplights along my path to work that have cameras on them and people won't chance going through a yellow light so they panic.  Seeing red lights light up on the cluster gives an uneasy feeling when you're in the middle of traffic.

I have made some very quick stops as I am training myself to use the brakes properly for those times when thinking is too slow.  I have not seen the oil light come on.  Of course, I haven't looked for it either.  I will now.
