zx50 position bulb
«

Hello good people,
I have a zx50 '04 and my front left position bulb has gone out. the right one still works. these are the running lights not the hi beam which hasn't worked in a couple of years. I'd like to replace the left position bulb. the OEM part number says it is a 12v 5w bulb. Is this something i can pick up at an auto parts store or do i need to special order through one of the scooter stores. I know nothing about the electrical wiring on these things. is there a book I can read or some place online to help me understand scooter wiring. Thanks loads!

I am not sure if they are a wedge type bulb but, either way you should be able to get them at an auto parts store. Might be worth replacing the headlight bulb while you are at it. I don't know what the part no. is for the stock headlight bulb but a BA20D super bright halogen bulb fits straight in and is a big improvement. Just make sure it is a 35/35 watt bulb.

the time i had the headlight checked the bulb was working. so i think it's something else.
do i remove the handlebar cover to access the running light bulb for replacing. also are these single or dual filaments and what is the diff?

Yes, from memory you remove the cover and you have access to them. Not sure, but I think they would be single filament, a dual filanent bulb is for a light with two functions, like a tail/brake light.
How has your scooter been running?

Hi Sid,
She's been running okay. No probs with the piston, etc. I changed the rollers over to 8.5 grams and this is making her way slower on the hills, which is a sad face. I didn't think a gram diff would make that much difference. The belt is relatively new as is the muffler.

While you have it open, check that the blue and white wires from the headlight to the plug are clean and plugged in tight. If yours has high/low beam switch, then the wires will go to the switch and one wire will go from the switch to the plug.

Could be a dirty connection, or a bulb on it's way out.

Yes, sand paper, emery cloth or emery board. WD40 is also good as well.
On a side note, does your scoot have a high beam light on the dash? If so, could you post a pic of it please?

are these wires crimped or soldered at the connector? if it's loose wiring do i need a new connector? if so, do you know what kind? everything is stock.

The wires ard crimped in the terminals, it would be those connectors that may be dirty.
