Hello,
I have a 2001 People 50 2t that I purchased at the beginning of the summer. When I bought it it had a 72cc Airsal big bore installed (i did not know when I purchased, and prior owner did not tell me) The scoot ran great for about 1000 km. I used as a daily driver with a 40 mile round trip ride to work and back. One day I was driving a wide open throttle for about 5 min straight (i was late and trying to outrun a thunderstorm) The engine siezed on me. When I dug into it to repair, I realized that the Prior owner installed the Big Bore Kit.

After waiting almost a month for the new kit to come in, I installed and she fired right back up. I did some heat cycles to break in the new big bore. After 10 to 15 heat cycles/short rides, I was having a hard time starting. Had plenty of compression, had spark, and had fuel. Upon further inspection I had a LOT of fuel. I should state that 1 tank prior to the sieze, I started to add an oz of Seafoam to the tank.

I took the carb off, thoroughly cleaned, and removed reeds to check for any damage from the sieze. (the piston ring locator pin had come out of piston during sieze) I put everything back together, and again had the same problem. Fuel was pouring out of the tube that you suck on in order to fill carb. I agin took apart and cleaned a second time. Same problem. Out of frustration, I let it sit for a month and tackled some other projects. This past weekend, I jumped on it again, and the problem was just the opposite. I now have no fuel running into the carb. When I blow/suck on the the filler tube, I hear air only, and the carb does not filll.

My long winded question is, is it possible that my petcock is bad /clogged as a result of age or the seafoam that I put in the tank? Can I take it apart and clean it? This is getting very frustrating. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi,
I had another make of scooter (couple of months ago) when I bought it, it wasnt running, dead battery and so on. During the summer time, I have changed piston + rings, cyclinder and new spark plug. Start'd straight away without any problem. Took it for 5-6 miles ride and about 50 meters from CUT OUT on me. For 3 days I was pulling my hair out (not much hair left now). Done compresion test - OK, check for fuel - OK, check for spark - OK. Something inside my head said put another new plug and then "hey presto" started with problem.
Moral of my story is if you see a spark doesnt mean that spark is stong enough.

Thank you for sharing your life lesson with me. I have tried 3 different spark plugs, and each of them works when I am getting the proper amount of fuel into the carb. This is my problem. I am not getting the proper amount of fuel in my carb. It is either too much, flooding the cylinder and crank case, or too little, not even filling the bowl of the carb. I believe that it is a petcock issue, and want to confirm that, as well as finding options to either clean or replace the petcock.

Well, do you know why it went from one extreme to the other (no fuel to too much)?  If you pull the fuel line to the carb and crank the bike over, you should get a solid stream of fuel while you are cranking.  If not, then its the petcock/fuel pump or its the vacuum source that actually actuates the pump to pump fuel.  If you are getting a lot of fuel coming out of the fuel line, and hit or miss inside the bowl of the carb, then I would say you have crap clogging the needle/seat.  I just ran into this myself on my scooter, and cleaned all of the green stuff out of the inside of the carb bowl.

In the same way, if you are actually getting fuel inside of the crankcase, then the needle and seat may be leaking and not preventing the bowl from over filling.  If you can download the manual that is posted in here, it shows how to check the float level.

Answer some of those questions so we can get a better idea what is going on.
