Hunting

I have changed the spark plug to the Iridium version and I have noticed that the engine seems to hunt around the 5000 rpm mark. Any idea guys or is it just that the weather is getting colder in the uk?
All ideas observations welcome.

no noticable hunting with mine so far, did you use the CR7EIX?

i also have the same plug....with no change in rpm performance.....does the problem abate once the scooter is warmed up?

Yes I used the CR7EIX. I have only got a 4 mile journey to work. I run the scoot for a couple of minutes before I set off maybe its not getting to temperature. Could also be that I hired a SYM GTS 125 EVO on holiday, though undepowered was very smooth perhaps I need to get used to the beast again, lol.

The term "hunt" as defined by a layman, backyard, shadetree mechanic

1: when used to describe a diagnosis on an automatic transmission--- The automatic gear selection randomly goes from gear 2-3, gear 3-2, etc. The transmission does not "settle" on the proper gear.

2: when used to describe a diagnosis on driveability--- The vehicle has RPM fluctuations when the throttle is kept at a steady setting. In the case of a CVT, it can feel as if the vehicle is being driven with the throttle being "blipped" constantly. The term "blipped" would be the equivalent of manually accelerating, decelerating on a rapid scale.

If you still have the old plug? Does it go away, when you revert back to original plug?

Will try the old plug but I do think it maybe down to the colder weather, I hope.

i am with your second description of hunting which i would call throttle surge when idling....the specks say 1600 rpm at idle,,,,when i first got the scooter it was more like 1900 rpm......this problem is minor in warm temperatures as the rpms go down after the scooter warms up for a few minutes ...i am interested to see what happens as the weather gets colder here in the northeast...

Good explanation, thanks.  As a native english (US) speaker I guessed, but still a good explanation, even the blipped part.
