kymco PeopleS 125 Carb tuning
« on: October 21, 2011, 02:50:57 PM »
Hi All, New here. I couldnt find a listing for my bike, however would anyone know how to tune a carb on my bike. My dealer wants around £50 to look, I really cant afford that at this time!! What my bike does is run fine when on the go , but when i have to stop at lights or junctions, it chugs for a bit almost stalls , then goes alright, sometimes it stalls as I am slowing down.
I put in a new spark plug and air filter, but it seems to be a bit better but not great at all, and it is a bit scary when trying to pull out on a roundabout cos sometimes it just hangs for a second or two.
Thanks in advance
Shay

How many kilometres/miles old? Last maintenance?
Does it happen too if engine already warmed up? (If not - check choke!)

Easy tries:
Check fuel filter above the carb. Maybe dirt in it.
Turn in the idle screw 1/8 - 1/2 revolution, to increase idling speed.
And/or add a special carburetor cleaner into the fuel.
Check accelerator pump (diaphragm and needle removed). But be careful during re-insert.

Depending on last maintenance:
Clean carb with detergent and compressed air (that's about 50 bucks with all the work involved). Works much better then cleaner into fuel.
The rollers in the vario might have worn out and keep transmission too long during slow motion.

Hiya
Thanks for your reply, I will try out your tips tomorrow,
Also my bike has around 55,000 Miles on her and been fully serviced since new. Never had anything go on her apart from speedo cables.
I do not have a choke(I dont think) but having said that you can smell the exhaust and i thinks its running rich.
Let you know later
Thanks

The People S 125 has an automatic choke. There is no lever or know for manual use.

Try some carb cleaner like Seafoam or similar. Are you using regular or premium gas?
