NCY Super Transmission Set
« on: October 26, 2011, 01:16:05 AM »
My scooter has become a little slow recently and i found this kit for a good price:

Did anyone here try this out, any tips? I am just curious before I lay my hands on it this weekend.
Along with it new front shocks, finally - my wrists hurt - and a new rear tire...

I have an NCY variator with 12 gram weights and it is a good unit.  I also have a similar "racing" clutch and I like it.  Since I installed the clutch, I do get a bit of vibration at 30 mph and up.  I did not replace the belt when I did the clutch, which may be the issue.
This set should give you a little more grunt off start and up hills.
Maybe get a new belt as well if yours is a few years old.

Thanks Steve,

Good I do already have a new belt that I will install together with the set. It's a stock one though, no fancy Kevlar belt. When I read here that someones kevlar belt ripped I thought that is definitely not something I want to end up with. Especially since such things like to happen in the middle of a cold night out somewhere when it's raining...

I have the kit, with about 4K miles on it.  I also replaced the belt with a kevlar Malossi.  I am using 3-10.1 sliders and 3-11.9 sliders.  I really like the setup and it is quicker than stock.  Pretty inexpensive too.

HueJass, I am just building the kit into the scooter and the clutch spring and the clutch collar with the "shoe?" are too narrow. It looks like it's still possible to get the spring over the original boot, but then the "shoe" thingy with the ball bearing wouldn't fit.
Did you have the same problem? What did you do?

All set! I thought that collar and it's bottom part with the bearing goes towards the clutch but it was rather the lower spring seat that slips over the base of the driven face disks. Sounds kind of confusing I guess...

Anyway - kit is installed (everything fit perfectly) and performs very nice. Acceleration is much smoother now, the 'dead' range somewhere between 25-35mph has disappeared. I think that's great because this frustration, when I am first to pass the intersection and then right after the cars are passing me has also disappeared.
Vibration is still the same as always and motor noise also seems to be the same.
Top speed has unfortunately not changed at all, still (real) 55mph max.

If one doesn't need extra top speed I would definitely recommend this kit. The built quality also feels very good.

Did some more tweaking on the slider tuning.  Was using 10.2 and 11.8, now down to three -10s & three-11.7s.  I think the NCY kit, plus the larger Malossi belt allow me to run lighter weights than other peeps.
We were riding the the kids on the back, and hills were killing us. The lower weights sure do keep the revs up.  It doesn't look like I've lost too much on the top end, can still do 60+/70 indicated in a tuck with just me on it.
The higher revs kick ass.... way more zippy now.  These things are a blast.

If you don't have an aftermarket variator, get one!.... The NCY trans kit is decent.
