engine block heater

Was thinking of a small block heater But would like to find out more about theam. the reason for one is because that way I can plug it in when my scoot sits out side at work and the motor well be worm and easy starting. Has anyone ever used one befor or is it a waste of money.

How cold? I am starting my DT300I in -10C weather with no problem. I don't think you will fine one small enough for the system. I don't use a block heater till it is below -20c on my truck.

my agilty50 has a hard time starting when its below 38 outside. a 100 watt light next to the motor does the trick but once im at work then im in trouble.

What motor oil are you using? Maybe you should go with something lighter in the cold, like 5w40 (if 40 is the recommended weight).

Waste of money if outside temperature is above -15C, because it is not neccessary.

It was never below -15C where I live so I do not know are there problems with starting scooters at these temperatures, and do you drive below -15C.

I'm planning on using a thermostat controlled pipe heater from home depot for $25. It looks like an orange extension cord with a long black element you can weave thru and round the block.

 My aircooled KYMCO 250 has started as low as 9 celsius without any problems.

 like one you would put on your house hold pipes from stoping theam from freezing. mmmm sounds like a idea.

I wouldn't think it's a waste of money since so many people who live in cold climates use them on their cars and trucks.

I've also seen heat elements you can insert down the oil dipstick opening.  Warms the oil.  Though finding one to fit a scooter may be a problem.   :D
