rear cargo box for MXU 250
« on: November 01, 2011, 01:30:58 PM »
Hello,
I'm an ATV newbee. I've had my new 2011 MXU 250 for about 3 weeks now. Need to get a cargo box for the back, thinking about the Moose Outdoorsman Storage Trunk here http://mooseutilities.com/products.jsp?level1=3529&product_group_id=11001. I like the style and I'm told its big enough to hold 2 helmets.
But wondering how it will fit on the rack and still leave enough room for the wife. I can't seem to find any measurements for the seat area (from the seat to the back, and the width of the seat).
Anyone have this cargo box mounted, does it fit nice for 2 people, is it a good box?

Thanks

It would probably fit... But I don't think I would go 2 up on that light a machine. It has a smaller wheel base and the weight of your passenger would be behind the center if the rear axle. This would make for a really light front end and can get you both in a "bad situation" !

evilamoeba1, I still have not decided on the Moose Outdoorsman. Now looking at this front Box which can hold two helmets.

But, I still might get the Moose, will let you know how it goes.

Fireandsteel, hey I'm wishing I got the 500 or at least the 300 MXU but I'm just using it as city/street transportation (possibly a beach or two) so no heavy off-rode action involved so the 2 up option is okay for now.

Okay...I have purchased the Mouse Outdoorsman Rear Trunk http://www.mooseutilities.com/products.jsp?level1=3525&product_group_id=11001

That picture makes it look smaller than it is. It holds our 2 scorpion half helmets and still has a lot of roomp. It most likely will hold 3 full size helmets.

Now I have to install it.
It came with the standard U bolts that mount on the rear rack, but I'm wondering if I should remove the rear rack to get exact measurements to drill the holes or just eyeball it. I Really would hate to mount it crooked or have extra holes :-(
Plus I want to mount it far enough back to leave room for my second rider to share the seat.

I will upload pictures  once I figure all this out and have it installed.
