Glad you're back on the road. After you get used to Dr. Pulley sliders, they are nice

Alex, earlier you said you put the stock rollers back in and I take it since then put the Dr Pulley back in.  Are these the same Dr Pulley you started with?  You said something about trying to add a bit of weight to them.  Did you do this or just leave them at 28 gram?  I am considering the Dr Pulley.  I did the change in our Scarabeo 500 and wife is quite happy with the result.  She said it may have taken a little hit on MPG, but it still gets close to 60 MPG.  She rides the Scarabeo, I ride the X500 and like the smoother take off it gave the Scarabeo and it looks like it would do the same for the X500.  However, can you give me an idea of what it did to the gas mileage.   I also read in one of the posts (can't remember who said it...) that gas mileage came back up a bit after they got used to riding it with the Dr Pulley and eased up on it a bit.  What about highway speeds, does the RPM catch back up when you get to cruising speed?  I tried asking these questions to my wife about her Scarabeo and she says she never paid any attention to that stuff she just rides it and likes the smoothness and extra pep.

Hi Winginman,

I have had Dr Pulley sliders in my X500 for about 6k miles now. I highly recommend the use of a dry lubricant like graphite when you install them.

As to mpg, mine took a hit of about 2 or 3 mpg at first, then when I adjusted to the quicker, smoother take off and quit rolling the throttle so much, my mileage came back. The dry lube gives a really smooth take off, especially at slow speeds like in a parking lot.

And highway, that's where I noticed the biggest change. Rpm went up a bit, but I think it's because the engine is not working as hard. Accelerating from 55 to 65 makes the rpm shoot up,  but then like another gear, when speed is reached, rpms go down some. At speeds, the engine sounds like it's running easier.

Bongo, thanks.  I think I will try the Dr Pulley.  May take a few weeks.  I am tied up this coming weekend and will have to order the sliders from my local dealer anyhow.

Hey Winginman,
You can get Dr Pulleys from www.scootertrap.com for $50 including shipping. And they ship quick.

They come in one weight only, however, some on this forum have added weights by inserting small rounds of metal in a couple. You can find their posts with all the techy stuff.

Here's my update on Dr. Pulleys, an $1800 update. First make sure they are genuine Dr. P because there are some copycats that will fail. Also, they have to be installed just right, not much margin for error. In my case, the tech missed a thing or two and the whole drive train had to be rebuilt. I like OEM now.

Hey Alex - you wouldn't happen to still have the little black plastic cap that goes on the mirrors would you - I lost mine.  If you still have it - then let me know how much you'd like for it.

Bongoman - maybe we should go for a scooter ride and trade back and forth so you can feel the difference between stock and the sliders.  Do you have the stock screen or the Givi?  I didn't want to go to a big screen - but the wind noise is starting to get to me...  I'm north in Avery Ranch - where are you?

Hey Guys,
It was quite interesting reading your conversation. The fun part was I have no idea what Dr. Pulley rollers are or where they are installed and what the are supposed to do. If you have the time and don't mind. Please give a quick run down. Thanks, Kymcorider

From what I've been reading, My personal decision is to leave the fat scoot stock. I am a firm believer in mods, but it seems as if things can go wrong with aftermarket parts. I am happy with the performance of the x500 and would rather have longevity  ;).

Got about 5000 miles on my Dr Pulley in my 09 X500.  Yep, you loose a few MPG due to higher RPM taking off and in most speed ranges.  Top end is basically the same it seems that the rollers reach the same position on top end just takes a bit longer.  I have the tall Givi and that affects top end more than anything.  The difference in performance and smoothness of take offs more than offsets the few MPG I lost.
