Where to stick my tom tom?
« on: November 27, 2011, 01:33:40 AM »
I bought a tom tom the other day but I guess the glass is too curved for the mount to stick. Any ideas? Anyone else have a tom tom on their scooter?

Hello Zorce,
Hey I just got a 4.3" Megellan GPS for my Xciting 500 and had it hard wired and mounted right below the dc charger on the stiring column. Used the mount that came with the GPS, just put 3 screws in the base and attached the base right below the charger so the charger is still usable. Actually I had Best Buy do it, I am mechanically declined, would have probably shorted out the whole electrical system. The GPS is easily removed from the mount for thief protection. Cost $50. There is plenty of room to do the wiring after removing the Kymco name/charger plate, just splicing directly into the charger wiring. Just a thought for your Tom Tom. Good luck, stay safe.

Here's a pic of all the various RAM Mounts I have on my X500.  Be careful, they're addicting. hahaha.

From Left to Right: Slip Grip cradle for Droid X phone, cup holder, TomTom 720 mount.

Some titles are too funny to reply to seriously.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

If you pop the center plate off on the handlebars.  (The one that
has the big "K" on it).  You can either buy an extra mount or glue
or screw your existing mount right onto that plate.  Then pop it back on.

My bike has a dedicated GPS because of the speedometer issues I've had.
Then...I found a waterproof box,  foam lined that it sets in.

Here's the only issue I have with GPS'ssssssss.  The Reflection is so bad
they can be very hard to see.  On the Nuvi models,  once the maps pop up,
if you push the lower right hand corner (I think it's speed),  a new screen pops
up with a 2" diameter mph reference.   I cut a big hole in the waterproof box
over this display and glued a cheap magnifying glass over the hole.

Man, with this crowd, "Where to stick my tom tom" is one hell of a loaded question.  :)

Yeah I figured that title would catch some attention...lol
Thanks for the responses. I will figure something out. Looks like the tom tom comes on its own mount right out of the box. Not sure if it comes off easily or if anyone has modified it. Was hoping someone else had experience with this brand of GPS. Also thanks for the link! looks like I might find a solution there.

Everyone tells me that RAM Mounts make the Bomb-Diggity rigs for attaching GPS/phone units to moving hardware.

Pricey, but what isn't?

My fingers itch to write and tell you where to stick your Tom-Tom; if we knew each other better, I might provide an answer.

Your question does remind me of that other age-old question that the angel asked Santa Claus on Christmas morning. The angel asked Santa, "Where do you want me to stick this Christmas tree."

Oh the possibilities.
