2007 People 50 rough start and whine noise
« on: February 02, 2012, 06:55:55 PM »
Just recently noticed that right when you start to accelerate, he scooter kind of vibrates roughly before taking off. Also, at about 30 and 37mph I hear a whining noise coming from the tranny. What do I need to do?

..it could be residue on your clutch pads, causing the vibration..

..a whining noise is not uncommon..

..a good cvt inspection is definately in order..

Maybe worn out rollers causing the belt to slip. If more than a year since you have opened the cvt.. Do so, and check it all out. I would get a new belt/ rollers first anyway. If it's more than a year

Mine shuddered on take off all the time when it was stock. Started after about 100 miles. It was a major concern for a long time. Other people on here with People 50s have complained about the same thing. Mine also had a funny noise at just above 30mph. Both symptoms stopped when I changed the variator, rollers, and clutch springs. Unfortunately I did them all at the same time so can't tell you what resolved the issues. The vibration could have been residue on the clutches, like wordslinger said, as I did take some light grit sandpaper to them. Also cleaned the bell out with brake cleaner.
