belt or clutch spring.

Undesided what I may need for my scoot its eather the clutch spring or the belt both are less then 2 years old. took the belt off and with it measures out to be about 12.5 inchs long when stretched out.seams to be a little long but not to sure.my scoot well only get up to 20 km so it eather the belt or the spring the reast of the clutch looks ok. cash is tight right now so I realy need to know were to start.         I would love to get both but unless I rob a bank that well not happen. is there a way of testing the spring. this is what my scoot is doing when scoot is on kick stand it runns fine when off and me on it it starts of fine then slows right down to 20 km and stays there sometimes slower . thanks for any help I can get.

The belt is measured in mm not inches. It should be replaced if it is more than 1 year old. They don't stretch enough to cause what you describe but they do get thin enough to reduce speed. This will NOT happen all of a sudden. more of a gradual loss. The contra spring can be tested on a bathroom scale. The stock spring should take 55-65 pounds to compress until the coils touch. Try a compression test (cylinder). My guess is you lost a valve seat or something similar. Also take a close look at the intake manifold. It is rubber ended,(at the carb) and prone to cracking. Have you looked at the Var?

Also take a close look at the intake manifold. It is rubber ended,(at the carb) and prone to cracking. Have you looked at the Var?

My manifold split where the clamp goes around it to hold it to the carb. Think i had overtightened it and it cut into the rubber. It is hard to see sometimes as mine split underneath so i didnt see it till i took it off. I did have similair symptoms tho, i could only get to 30mph.

Well when mine went i had trouble getting it to idle too. Everytime i set it on the stand then reved it up it went haywire and needed set again. Spent ages turning my idle uo then back down before i finally took it apart and saw the split. Tried gluing it back up and taping over it with rubber tape but it only lasted a week like that while i waited till i got a new manifold delivered. Wouldnt have lasted much longer cos when i took it off i saw it was about to come apart again. New manifold was cheaper than my last belt tho so wasnt an expensive fix.

Might be something else tho. Take it you checked your fuel filter is clean?

right now im not in a big hury to fix so I well just look over the whole scoot and fix the easy stuff and hope I dont find any major fixes. this wear I say my scotter preyer.

I just posted on Blues other thread. The manifold issues you guys have had is an easy fix. Take the OLD/SPLIT manifold, and put it in a steel pail w/ some gas or acetone. I prefer acetone. About a quarter cup full. FUN TIME light it on fire. It will burn away the rubber casing leaving you with an all aluminum manifold pipe. You can now use any standard fuel proof coupler hose. You will need to use some elbow grease to peel it off but the fire hardens the rubber making it break vs. bend.

im saying easy fix because I have extra scooter parts laying around the man cave.I safe all parts from other scoots because you never know. I have a few carbs I just might be able to make one good one with too.

I herd of people doing that my friend took a coumpter fan and hooked it up to the air intake somehow he says it works ok.
