No spark, no start

Hi all,
 I'm new to the forum, and fairly new to scooting, too. I bought an '09 S200 in the fall, and my wife and I have been having a great time riding. A couple of weeks ago, I had it out all day (been a pretty warm winter up here in the northeast) and she ran great. Put on quite a few miles. Took it to a meeting at the church in the evening. Came out about an hour later, and the engine would turn over, but not fire. Have since taken the body off to look at/change the spark plug, but have found it gets no spark.

How do I test CDI, coil, to find the  source of the "no spark"? I don't want to just throw parts at this, and I don't have a lot of diagnostic tools, either. What do I need? What is the easiest and least expensive way to diagnose and fix my scoot?

I apologise if this is a common or much discussed topic. Maybe someone could share some links that I haven't been able to find yet. Part of my problem could be not knowing what to ask...

Hi Al, I suppose you checked the "kill switch". There is a thread in the General section titled "Links to manuals" You should find the manual there. You will need a multi meter to test. There are too many variables to list in one post so try to find the manual, and follow the test procedures. People here are very willing to help so if you get stuck... ring back. Wiring, and switches are the weakest link so a can of wd-40 type stuff may help too. Spray into the Ign. switch, and kill switch to clean up the contacts. Same for ALL the connectors on the electrical system. The spark plug may look ok but may be bad... Get a new one before anything else. When you replace the plug, unscrew the spark plug boot, and cut the hi-tension wire back about 1/4" to expose fresh wire. Screw the boot back on.
You don't have to get a "Fluke" meter... A Radio Shack brand will do. Just a volt/ohm meter... $25.00 or so

Sears has a good digital multilmeter usually on sale for less than $15.
It is very ruggid and does all that the higher priced one do.
