Be Safe Be Seen

As the subject suggests, "Be Safe Be Seen" and as a fairly new rider especially on the 300i, which is why I write this here instead of a miscellaneous area. I do not suggest to buy from this store as I do but merely point out a new type of store to meet a safety conscious  persons needs. I have been purchasing anything that will get me seen better/quicker and am not ashamed to use it. The Hi Viz Color is of course as shown in the photo I attached. Personally, I have the gloves, vests, stickers and many other items. I do not know the owner as a friend I push for but merely know him in meeting when I discovered the store. I usually have someone, "almost always women", try to run me over at least once per riding season.

I was in WalMart recently and saw for the first time, florescent T shirts and vest.

If I remember correctly, they were made by Walls.

 Flo lime green and flo orange.

Plan to get one soon.

boo...good thought, we can't ever have enough visual on the scooters or our body. To each his own of course but when I see many bikers with all black, I wonder how safe are they? I have a silver helmet with bright stickers on it and extra reflective tape on the Givi box behind me. my gloves are the new bright color and my jacket is black and white with the colored vest over top. No, I don't feel I'm over doing it and even had good reports from many people that it's wise to do so....good luck, do your thing no matter what you may think others would think.

But you get hit anyway.  I firmly believe that hi-vis may be of very little help.  Those that look but do not see will continue to look without seeing us.  Not that it helps any more than hi-vis, I zigzag whenever I see a car that may cross my path.  I have had the experience of being looked at but not seen.  A man driving a pick up looked right at me but still started his left turn.  I saw his passenger grab his arm and then he stopped.  I was in the process of getting out of his way.  I'm not saying not to use hi vis, I just think they still will not see.  It's all up to us to be super alert and take action to stay safe.

The problem is if they are that close to see the high viz it usually makes no difference if they did not see us in the first place. Not that I am advocating not using this or similar. I just think it is better toi grab their attention well before you get up on them.

Brighter than normal lights or other attention grabbers to me are best. Even if they do not know it is a bike they know something is there. Loud bikes are oblivious to drivers as in a cage it is hard to tell where the sound is coming from. You have to be able to see to drive so allerts is alwys best.

Whites and greens etc are nice but it is better to use colors that triger the caution reaction in people. Orange, yellow and red IMHO are best. Another attention grabber is super bright white lights, I guess this triggers the "I'm looking into the sun" responce. In the end you want to grab their attention and wake them up!

I found a winter coat with a fair amount of the orange/brown in it and it is highly visable but I do not rely on this to grab attention. If it were legal I'd ride with flares a blazing.............

In Magazines, newspapers, photographs in general, red is the best first noticed color. We are are taught red to stop most of our lives and the once orange caution at lights and workers, is now the new Hi Viz color to train on. Absolutely correct about seen but not really....this is definitely scary. All good advise and thoughts read here and the thought is to pre-read what others are about to do. It is surely getting worse out there with the drugs, cell phones etc behind the wheel along with the driver. I merely feel that every little bit MAY help in one way or another. Truthfully, when I get out on the road I am deeply concerned about the other drivers and their next move. I love to play chess and try to make riding my scooter a think ahead move also....Good Luck to all of us who can't hurt anyone much out there but they can surely hurt us.
