and with is being a problem of the variator not closing so that the torque drive not opening, is there a test that I could do to confirm this??

Use a fat magic marker to draw some stripes from the shaft to the pulley edge on both pulleys (front/rear). Ride it for a mile or so, and look for the stripes. It is the easiest way I know to verify full travel. A stiffer contra spring is always better than OEM.

Do yall have any tips for getting that large nut off the rear pulley? I wanted to try the new torsion spring but nut is stuck.

Or you can jam the nut in a vise, and twist the clutch. There are alot of ghetto vids on utube for this

lol, the vice is what i tried but could get it to budge. I'll give the screw driver trick a try next i guess.

nice rig wordslinger, wish i still worked at a fab shop i could whip one right up.. well I havent been able to get that nut loose I'm thinking about renting a socket from auto zone so I can use my impact to break it loose. but I noticed it dosent do this binding when the scoot is cold, and when the weather is cold i can baby it so it dosent do it. I checked this on a 8 mile ride to a friends and hit over 50 on the speedo befor i ran out of road with more motor left. The more I work on this scooter the less I feel I know.

We ALL been there. About a month ago I was trading out the contra spring, and noticed the back of the clutch has wear marks where it has been STOPPING the torque drive from fully opening. 3mm wasted! This is the delta that has been on the ZX for 4 years! I compared it to the OEM clutch, and found the oem is beveled to avoid this. I made a 3mm shim to fix it, and gained 2-3mph (right before melting the umpteenith piston). So even when you Think you got it nailed... something new humbles you.
For all you guys running after market clutches, I strongly suggest removing the contra spring, and checking for interference on the Torque drive pulley. There may be 2-3 mph in it for you as a gift from Z.

Pull the spring, and see if yours hit. I guess they must as the oem clutch is beveled, and the Malossi is not.

Forgot to mention the Shim just puts the clutch deeper in the bell, and away from the Torque drive. Belt alignment is not affected
