Loose Throttle / Throttle Assembly

I just purchased a 2008 Agility 125 and the only apparent issue is that the throttle assembly is a bit loose. I may be using the term "throttle assembly" incorrectly, but I am referring to the throttle and the block that it is attached to / comes out from, which has the ignition switch on it. The throttle works fine, but when I turn the throttle there is a little bit of play before the actual throttle engages. I don't see any visible screws to tighten the assembly.

That is normal.

Strange, only because it means that I have to turn the throttle grip a tiny bit before it actually engages, and the entire assembly turns - not just the throttle grip. I'm guessing that you know what you're talking about, but I think that I'll try to take and post a video just to confirm.

There is ONE phillips head machine screw that holds the assembly. It is on the front near the mount for the mirror. Try to tighten that. If it is already tight take the screw out, and remove the top plate. There is a pin in the bottom plate that goes into a hole in the bars. If that pin is sheared off you will need to either drill/tap a #8 machine screw into the hole thru the handle, or replace the whole unit.

If you by "assembly" mean the whole metallic part including the one where rear view mirror is connected, there are two screws behind that have to be tightened.
However, some free play in gas line is normal.

How about this: I was on the way home between workplace and home, stopped to buy some groceries. While I was waiting in the queue, I saw your PM, drove home and shot a clip before it got dark. Here it is:



As you can see:

- both scoots have free play, which is normal - forget it
- this assembly  thing where rear view mirror is installed tends to get loose (crappy design - too short screws, in fact, screw holes) and you have to tighten them every 5-10.000 kms. To do that you have to remove upper front fairing: four screws around steering and one screw just above headlight = 1 minute of work. Take care that this 5th screw does not fall inside the scooter, otherwise you will have to remove the headlight too. Ask me how I know that.

Then you can tighten them but be careful:

a) use good screwdriver that is quite wide/bulky at the top, to avoid destroying screws - do not use "small" cross screwdriver
b) grab the metal part with your left hand, place screwdriver into the screw firmly and use quite a lot of force - the screw will not go in more than 1/4 of a turn, if so much at all, but it makes all the difference because that is the part of the screw that keeps the damned thing together.

When I remove top part of the Tupperware, I like to change oil in front brake because then you have access to oil reservoir. Did that two weekends ago.
Also, I check all electric connections hidden below.

Anyway, where are you from?

Anyway, where are you from?

I'm closing in on 5,000 km, so that makes reasonable sense. Either way, doesn't seem to be a big deal.

My wife and I are originally from NYC, but we're on a pre-kids extended road trip by RV. We've been on the road for a bit over 1.5 years and will be spending the next couple of months in Austin. Buying a scooter is WELL overdue and in owning it for three days we've realized how much it is increasing our quality of life. No more thinking about going to check something out. No more thinking about parking. No more thinking about buses or the annoyance of biking back after a long night out.

The Agility 125 has been awesome to us, and we got what I think is a good deal: $950 for scooter + new helmets. Scoot is a 2008 with 4,610km and the owner was a 60 year old guy who was anal retentive about maintenance.

:))) Pre-kids extended road trip? I heard that's what people do in Australia when they retire. :)

Scoots have been my main vehicles since 1998. I did not own a car between 2002 and 2009. :)

Your scoot is a youngster with that mileage. :)

I have this same problem with my 2007 scooter with about 3000k on it.  I tried to tighten the bottom of the screws (the one that is accessible without removing anything) as per Zombies instruction. That did not seem to work. I think I will need to take off the fairing as per Axy, and then loosen and then tighten both screws. If that does not work, I'll look inside the box as per Zombies instruction.

It would probably make sense that Kymco would offer better replacement screws for that assembly.

When I get that tightened, I'll be able to mount my PUIG Touring windscreen...

This forum is proving mightily useful for me, as a new owner!!

In getting my right mirror mount ("throttle assembly") tightened, I removed the upper front fairing as Axy mentioned. But tightening the screws did not seem to do a thing. The solution for me was to remove the 2 screws. I took a look inside as Zombie suggested. I found that the pin he mentioned was in tact, and did go into the hole in the bars. With the clamp loose, I slid in a 1/2 inch piece of 1-2 mm thick rubber (like the kind you use to mount stuff to handlebars on a bicycle). Then I clamped it down, and now there is no more play. It is really nice to have that tight. Thanks Zombie and Axy.

Cool. I have one with a broken pin to fix right now. Figured I would drill, and tap a 6.5mm machine screw where the pin was. Cant have that side twist off.

As I was reading this thread, I was thinking of an old tire interior/tube cut to strip. Anyway, you have done it already.   ;)
