I think if youre nice to your zx with stock gearing and the BBK with a bigger carb and exhaust you can get about 50ish mpg, riding it like you know you spent $500 to increase the power with a BBK, carb, intake, exhaust cdi, coil 93 octane, variator, rollers, racing clutch and staying high in the power band you will get around 25-30, seriously.
Now, a show of hands, who bought a BBK thinking they would save gas? Now those that raised our hands, I have this nice plot of land in the New Mexico desert for sale. Cheap!
If you want better gas mileage get a variator, rollers, Malossi primary gear set, new belt, center spring, and clutch and triple springs to 1k+ springs., de carbonize the exhaust and do a tune up, plugs and air filter. You will gain top end and still maintain low end with a decent increase in gas mileage.
The biggest thing is keeping the rpms in the beginning of your power band and not the end of it.

I'm just now dialing in the new ZX build, and I am certain I will be in the Mid 20's. I ran three 4000ft runs, and I have about 1/3rd of a tank left. These are WOT (as much as I dare for now) but those three runs, and 14 miles of 50mph, is 2/3rds of a tank.

Im talking about riding it the speed limit. Im sure it can get 50mpg easy doing the speed limits, not hard 55 mph runs you know.
id have figured you wouldnt get that bad of mpg with gear swaps, kinda adverse.

It takes more torque to pull the gears. I don't think a stock 39mm jug could pull 6.1:1.
Now that I'm thinking about it... The Malossi sport, and an RS II pipe were right around 60mpg. I would fill up twice a week. It topped out around 55mph.
That was a long time ago in a far away place...

When you say deck height of 1mm do you mean the piston is below the deck by 1mm? If so Remove your base gasket, and replace it with regular paper, and sealer. That will improve your squish by at least .4mm, and get you another 3-5mph. Get you more take off power too. I would Strongly suggest a colder plug,(BR9's) and keep using 93oct.
Yeah Zombie, thats what I have now- IIRC, ( its been a year since I did all this work)- I have the piston 1 mm below the cylinder, and a very thin paper gasket on the base. I had 2mm of squish, using soft solder to measure, before cutting the head 1 mm. The machinist said cutting the cylinder could result in the plating coming loose in the cylinder, so he cut the head 1 mm. Now I have 1mm squish using solder to measure. Obviously the base gasket cannot be reduced any more. It also has the stock Airsal thin metal head gasket.
And yes, I am using the BR9 plugs currently- it seems to run smoother than the "8" I was trying out.
I have gained most of this knowledge right here on this forum, with YOU, Zombie, helping me out a LOT!
My intake- manifold- boring out was a very impressive gain in acceleration- by far the fastest it has gone so far. I am still learning.... :)

I think were all learning a lot from each other, this forum is better than the hondaspree one by far. People are helpful on here even if we wander on a thread theres still good stuff in it!

Thanks for the Props. Buzz.
That's actually what I like best here. Everyone helps. Even posting Bad experiences helps more than most would imagine. Spree.net has some GREAT tuners, and LOTS of other sites as well but here is more of an extended family than a bunch of ass kissers. Nothing I hate more than someone posting an idea or new part, and everybody spending days rubbing the guys sack for it. After all they are just toys. Getting expensive but still just toys. I still learn more by trying something than reading why it won't work.
