Exhaust Heat Sheild

A heads up to check that the screws holding on your exhaust heat shield remain tight. I recently replaced ($$) a heat shield that I thought had been stolen. But today I noticed that 2 of the 4 screws that hold replacement shield on had already vibrated loose and fallen off. Am going to look for bolts that will hold the shield on more securely.

Use Lock washers under the bolts. Lok Tite will fail from the heat

Hey, bought my GV used, is missing 3 screws, now I know why, thanks. Have not been able to locate replacements. Will continue to look as I'm sure you are.
 Since you mentioned vibration, do all Kymcos vibrate? has been checked out, nothing wrong, reminds me of my previous bike, a Harley.

Every one of these horizontal engines vibrate because the piston is weight moving back and forth. More complex engines have a chain driven counter balance that neutralizes the effect but not in our cost cutters. Remember the old Harley circle dirt racers ('60 Sprint)? The Bars would shake out of your hands at certain Harmonic/sympathetic rpm's.

I'm gonna bump this one: mine stayed tight until we trailered our scoots to East TN for a week of riding. The trailer lost two of the four heat shield bolts and some of the washers. Rats! No fear as Fastenal got some M6-1.0x20 pan head Phillips stainless steel screws coming at $.89 each. I will make the insulating washers and Lowe's has the stainless flat washers. Mucho better than some of the Kymco dealers and their S&H rips.

Update: Got 4 stainless #3 phillips pan head M6-1.0x20 screws from Fastenal for $.24 each. The Fastenal part number is QM2550020A20000. The description is M6X20 PH PHMS A-2. Price per hundred is $22.60. I was cautioned that branch stores in bigger or busier cities may not want to do onesies-twosies like this. These guys and gals seem to want to serve the customer unlike some of our dealers that charge $15.00 S&H or want $39.00 for the screws and washers. The exact Kymco part has a pressed on washer and according to my Fastenal man is available thru his chain but ya might have to buy a box of 100 to get them.

Two weeks ago I was riding and heard what sounded like a plastic cup hitting the pavement.  I took a quick look around as I was moving and saw nothing.   Sunday I pulled in for gas after a 50 minute ride and noticed the plastic inner part of the muffler heat shield flapping in the wind.  It was held on by 1/2 turn of one of the 4 screws that are supposed to be in there.    The noise I thought was a plastic cup a couple of weeks earlier apparently was the metal portion of my heat shield sliding down the road.  My Like is a 2012 w/ 2000 miles on it.   I don't want to start beating it up this early, so I ordered the replacement parts.   One of the heat proof washers that is part of the hardware is $8.75.   My total bill for the outer heat shield and missing hardware was over $80.00.   
Moral of the story:    Check the 4 fasteners on your heat shield before you leave today.

Obviously you are not WaxShop-SuperGlazing your scoot after each ride as does the Stig - or you would have spotted the missing part and you could have gone back and retreived your flattened heat sheild -which could then have been hammered into a nice ash tray and sold to tourists.
When the Stig hears strange noises coming from behind him which are obviously unrelated to his high fibre diet - he investigates!
And: Thanks for the info. I checked before riding home from work today. They were all good.
Geez, 80 bucks. You know, a whole new clutch assembly for the LIKE200i only costs $90.
I'd a bought a clutch - and fashioned a heat sheild out of the foil from my tuna sandwich.
No I wouldn't....
