Help 2012 super 8 50 27mph
« on: April 02, 2012, 01:39:03 AM »
Okay, picked up my new scooter yesterday. It looks awesome but only goes 27mph. Under the seat was a bag with a spacer for the variator and a main jet. I installed the spacer and got almost 30mph. I looked for the red and violet wire at the cdi connector so I could cut it but it's not there. Installed the new main jet and got around 32-33mph. My problem is that i have 3 other scooters that are all stock and pull away from this thing and make it look bad. My zuma is the fastest at 42mph but even the slowest of the two ruckus pull on this thing. Even my daughters pink and black zebra striped ruckus pulls on this thing. Let me tell you how much fun that is when my 15 year old daughter beats her dad on his hot new Kymco. I removed the small bolt in front of the muffler so it can breath better. Not a lot of help but it sure sounds better. Removed main jet again and since it's Sunday and everything is closed i drilled out the stock jet to around a 97. Now its even slower. Okay that didn't work, too much fuel not enough air? What will male this thing run with my other scooters? I'm only looking for high thirties.

Is it a 4t or 2t?

It's a 2t. My dealer told me it only comes in a 2 stroke for 2012. I thought the 2t would be faster, especially out of the hole. My 4 stroke ruckus is even faster on take off. How about changing stock weights and the k&n filter that other people on this forum talk about. Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem. Max on flat road is 35 on a 2t with 82 jet and smooth boss. My friends cheap Chinese stock 4t 50 does 45mph no problem. If those are the only restictions done at the factory I should get more than 35mph. Should not have to by extra parts to get speeds I should have gotten to begin with.

My dealer says there are no other things holding the scoot back. That is just all it will ever do without buying a t-pipe, better var and such. ???

First the spacer has to stay OUT of the var for more speed. Have you looked inside the exhaust for a welded washer in the cylinder end? Inside the air box I think there is a rubber tube that restricts the air flow to the carb. That must come out. I dont know much about the S8 but these are the usual suspects. Last is get a 1500 Torque spring. That will hold low gear longer, and increase your rpms

There's no washer, I pulled the exhaust off my '11 and there was nothing there.

I'm going to dremel the bottom of the air box to get that pre-filter tube out of the way, but that's about it for the engine until I either buy a carb or jets. My air filter is coming in this week sometime, but I won't install that until I have more stuff to throw at it. My Multivar hopefully will make a difference. If not, I'll try some lighter DR pulley weights and see how that does.

Anything to get the rpm's up. Generally changing the contra spring is the best overall. Better revs, longer gears, and quicker down shift.

Okay, my super 8 has been at the dealer for two weeks now. They can't get it to go over 27mph. They have been in contact with the factory rep and now have ordered new reed valve for it. The rep said they have a few with leaking reed valves. I'll keep you posted if this works.

It´s easy to get the Kymco 2t to 50 mph. The 2-stroke version uses Kymco’s clone of Honda’s AF18/AF16 motor that dates back to the mid 90’s when these two companies parted ways in the 90’s. This motor is a basic design (air cooled, 2-valves, carburated) but its reliable and has a lot of performance potential. A derestricted Super 8 is capable of 45-50mph and these motors can easily be modified to 70mph and beyond. The ’94 - ’01 Honda Elite SR shares the same basic motor as the 2-stroke Super 8 (with some small differences)

Modify the airbox so the carb (Keihin 16) get more air. Larger mainjet and get the engine a new exhaust.

okay, the dealer delivered my super 8 to my house this afternoon. It was in my driveway when I got home from work (great service dept.). The bad news is that it really isn't much better. The service manager said the Kymco rep said that if I want it to go faster than I need to change the exhaust. He claims that it is very restricted. He said the exhaust off of a super 9 should work. I'm not sure what year to look for. Any ideas? When I took it for a ride tonight I did get it almost to 35 downhill with the small bolt removed from the side of the exhaust just in front of the muffler, but on level ground it's more like 30-32. Im still not happy with this scooter. Anybody want one with 21 miles on it? I'm going to get the Aprilia like I should have in the beginning.

There is a HUGE difference between the two bikes. The Ape is a MUCH better bike.

I called Kymco and got a tech rep on the phone. He pretty much told me he wasn't allowed to tell me anything. I did get him to admidt that the exhaust is resticted and he said he would only talk to my dealer. I gave him the service managers name and number. About three hours later my dealer called and said they told him to have me call a guy in Key West Florida at the moped hospital. I checked out their website and a couple others. I found a website called provoscooter.com and liked what i saw. I now have a stage one performance kit on order. $436 later I sure hope this works. I'm now within $800 of what I could have bought the Aprilia for. I'll keep you posted of the results.

My kit came in and I installed the exhaust first. First ride over 40 MPH, an easy 10 MPH gain from that alone. Plus awesome acceleration. I then put in the new variator and weights. I didn't really see any results but I have different weights and springs to try. I'm just happy this thing has potential. I was really starting to worry. I'll keep you posted of final results.
