How to Remove Body Plastic Behind Front Wheel?
« on: April 03, 2012, 03:42:43 AM »
New owner of a white 2009 GV250 here  ;)

On the 300-mile transport home, the wheel chock on the motorcycle trailer did a number on the white body part that is just behind the front tire.  I have downloaded the Service Manual and looked at the section that talks about removing body plastic, but none of the particular instructions seem to address this part.  (Is it called the "Cowl Under"?)  I'd like to remove it, buff out the gouging a bit and spray it with some of the rattle-can RustOleum bed liner.  I used some of that to spray the fenders on an '89 Jeep YJ and it worked splendidly.

So do you begin access under the floor mat?

TIA

Yes. all the screws/bolts are under the floor mat. You may have to loosen the adjacent panels to wiggle it out as well. Welcome to the forum...

Thank you, Zombie!!  I will definitely try this out tomorrow.  Although you can't really see the damage unless you're really bending down or looking for it, it's bugging the you-know-what outta me.  Gotta fix it!  $90 for a new panel, so I figure I'll give this a shot first.  Might look cool.

Thanks for the welcome, too.  I'm sure I will be a frequent visitor poster pest looking for wisdom  ;D

Try to patch it first.  YOu can use a patch (piece of alum. can
on the back) and Bondo the Front and Repaint.  Doesn't need
to be perfect because it's behind the tire anyway.  Save over a $100.00
and two weeks this way.   Also copy the parts list as it's also helpful
in how it goes together.

Thanks, Urbestfriend!
Unfortunately, I read your post after I already removed the Under Cowl.   Whoo-wee -- it was a challenge, but I did it.  Now, I hope that I can get that sucka back together again. :-\

I shall report back....

That's OK...I expected you to disassemble it first anyway.
If you've never used Bondo,  Get a Vinyl Spatula and only
mix maybe a Quarter Diameter size or two at a time.  It sets
up rather fast,  but also cures reasonably fast also.  If the hole
is big,  back it up with a patch of some kind.

Oh Zombie...You're so funny.
Unfortunately I'm just cheap.
I'll try anything to save a buck.
