What generic/other brand of engine oil can be used?
« on: April 15, 2012, 04:38:54 PM »
After scouring thru the manual, it just say Kymco 2-stroke injection engine oil. My question is, what if that specific oil isnt available nearby, what alternatives can be used?

Brand is left to the owner, if you turn to page 38 in your manual you will see a chart, you should select the best oil, Kymco calls for SAE 15W-40, but you can get from 5W-50 to 20w-40, 20 W-50 and this depends of the temperature or the region you live in,also  is the viscosity what is important, no so much the brand.

Also I heard from people not to use synthetic oil during first 1000 miles, after that switch to synthetic oil, hope it helps.

I would recommend a full synthetic 2 stroke oil intended for air cooled oil injected engines . I have also read that it is important to use the same oil each time due to the additive packages . I use amsoil "Interceptor" oil , it is readily available and has worked well for my 2002 people 50 for 13,000 km . Good luck .

...this is some good stuff...

..i recently switched my 50cc s9 over to amsoil..

..drained reservoir, filled with amsoil, bled the feeder line, connected it and fired her up...

...i could tell a difference almost immediately...there was a noticeable change in the way the engine runs...

..i would not have thought it so had i not witnessed it...

okay, yeah that helped a little Sentinex. You must have a different manual than i, because i dont see anything in the manual that you're referring to, nor the chart on p.38. Lets all be clear tho, i have just purchased a 2011 Super 8 50cc 2t.

How does the Interceptor smell? I've been using Spectro, it's got a nice sweet smell to it when it's running.

I think Sentinex was refering to crankcase oil , which our 2 strokes obviously don't use . Im glad there wasn't a disasterous mix up , lol . Enjoy your new scoot .

yup sorry I was Referring to the crankcase oil, i failed to remember 2t scooters need oil in reservoir in order to operate, sorry for the confusion. My manual is for the Super 8 but is 4 T not 2T.

yea with this brand new scoot, the manual is very vague, i was hoping someone would have a better insight than i. Once i figure out what the oil is i need to put in the reservoir, i need to figure out how much to put in. There's no markers inside the reservoir to signify the volume of oil.

..not sold retail around my city...

..might even get better pricing from a distributor...

Like Slinger said google amsoil , you will probably have dozens of local distributors . You just fill thr resovoir all the way up , I usually top it off every 3 or 4 gas fill ups .
