41.4 mpg?
« on: April 16, 2012, 01:25:55 AM »
My son just came in asking for more gas.  I topped it off again with the rest of the 92 octane no-ethanol gas I purchased for our lawn mower.  That makes a total of two gallons he has gone through in 132.5km which figures out to only 41.4mpg.  The only mod we made so far was notching the cdi. Could this poor mileage be due to the restricted boss keeping the scoot in a higher gear constantly?

The techies will follow with more info but if the scoots is being ridden WOT all the time, you're going to take a hit. What year? How many miles on your scooter? This may help provide more precise answers. I know when I was a teenager I beat the hell out of anything with an engine, so that would remove a load of potential mpg's!  ;D

2008 USA Kymco Agility 50, stock except for cdi cut.  We started with 6060km on the odometer.  Driven by an 180 pound 16 year old around town in stop and go traffic with some hills.  There is no smell of gas at all from the scoot.

...wowww...if you did the cdi, you must do the boss!!!

..it will cause engine to rev higher, and not be able to transfer the generated horsepower to th road...

..not as bad of a detrimental effect onna 4t, short-term, as opposed to a 2t...but it will cause premature belt, clutch....cvt wear...

..i got pics of my experience here..

...restricted, my 08 a50 got  somewhere @ 90 mpg...

..derestricted, closer to 60...

..once she got broke in good, and i started modding, i'd be lucky to get 40...

..around 50mpg is not un-heard of onna slightly modded 08...

..are there any #s printed on the top of your scoot's carb??

Haven't had time to do any mods except the simple one.  Still deciding which 1500rpm contra spring to buy.  I will make time to get the boss and weights changed next weekend.

..the boss is first...gotta get that...it alows the variator to push your belt out further, thus taking advantage of the derestricted cdi's higher rpm allowance...

..those two mods should be as one....

Damn, I posted about it at least twice and nobody raised an alarm:

Plans... notch the cdi at the beginning of summer and replace the drive boss near the end of summer.

Since getting the bike we have: replaced the mirrors with City style ones off eBay (thanks Streido), replaced the headlight bulb, notched the CDI and changed the oil.
Sitting in front of me I have the smooth variator boss, the 82 jet and 5.5gram roller weights (thanks Exe).  Waiting for my electric impact driver to get here from Harbor Freight to tackle the CVT mods.

Your kid is using the throttle as an on off switch. Do the boss, and all is well again...

I forgot to add I'm getting 80+mpg on a 50mm kit. Stock pipe, and 20mm carb.

Dude, you should get 117 mpg (50 km/l) if derestricted, and drive well over 200 km on a full tank. :) I've got carburator problems and funny noises from the motor, and i get 101 mpg (44 km/l). This is what you should get when derestricted, and then if you drive nice and keep your rpm low, 129 mpg (55 km/l) is achievable. :D
First Kymco agility 50 (2008) 11.000+ km (dead)
Second kymco agility 50 (2010) 20.000+ km. Project Fuel Injection. Stolen.
Kymco K-pipe 125 (2014) 7400 km.

Is he holding the throttle fully open if so he is just fighting the restrictor in the variator, my scoot is still fully restricted and unless im going up hill i never need the throttle open more than halfway and im 80kg and im getting over 100mpg also have you checked his tire pressure under inflation can effect mpg heavily i like my tires pumped up hard to make them nice and round 35psi front 40psi rear. Another thing to check is that the choke is not stuck on and the airfilter is not clogged....
