Mph Kph
« on: April 16, 2012, 03:25:44 AM »
My Super 8's speedo is in Kph, other Super 8s in other countries are in Mph. I noticed that the travel of the speedometer needle on both is the same, only the gauge face is different so I can say that both use the same mechanism but only the gauge face/panel is different. My question is: Is the odometer in my scoot in miles or kilometers? Thanks is advance!

Mine reads miles. I've tested it on a marked section of Hwy. Most of the other owners here report Km's. I don't get that one at all.

Vivo, my super 8 150 2012 is in miles, I called the Dealer and he didn't knew, but he thought that the odometer was in KM, is not, is in miles.

I actually had a GPS to confirm this. Also another clue is that I am getting 65 miles/Gallon.

Hope it helps.

ps: also I included a pic of my speedometer

Thanks Sentinex, we have the same speedo except that in mine the Km/h is located at the outer ring and the Mph is printed in the inner ring.

Zombie, I guess I'll have to do actual testing on marked section of the highway.

Thanks!

Vivo, may I ask what the top speed you getting? I ask because once I hit 50 is hard for needle to keep climbing.

I touched 60 mph (100kph) and I have a 125cc version. You have a new scoot as I can see in the picture, odo reads low. Maybe since you are still on the break-in period, you still have a lower speed. (I don't know) What oil are you using?

Ya in picture odometer was at 62, currently is a 550, I am about to do the 600 Miles Oil change and this time I am doing it myself(not gonna pay 89 dollars for an oil change at local power sport shop) What oil do you recommend that is not synthetic ?(I heard to use synthetic after 1000 miles)

Castrol GTX is the brand I use for breakin. Then Castrol Power RS full synth.

Yup, I do oil change myself too. I'm not really fond of synthetics. I use Caltex Delo Gold 15w/40. Its an oil for Diesel engines, trucks, heavy equipment, etc. I love this oil! Very smooth ride and very "durable". I would have preferred Rotella but it's not available here. A lot of scotteriest use diesel engine oil. My odo reads 5,800+

so zombie Castro GTX what SAE for breaking in? Most people around here have issues with the 15w 40 ans they don't carry in small quantities, the want sell me a gallon and that to much.

I use Delo straight 40w in a 1956 Criss Craft. Original engines. (flat head 6's) Delo is a very good "clean" oil. It handles WOT marine like a champ. A scoot is a breeze compared to Marine.

What is the average Temp. where you live? above 80* avg. I would go with 20w40 or 50, below 80* I would go 10w40 or 10w30. Depends alot on riding style too. The more WOT the bigger the numbers. If you mainly just tool around town I'd even go with 5w 20 or 30. It's not written in stone what oil is Best. It more depends on climate, and riding style.
I DO keep to one grade tho. I use 20w50. Any thinner, and I can hear the valves/rings chatter. I do ride near WOT most of the time, and live where the temp is 90*+ for 7 months out of the year. In the winter here I could use lighter oil, but why bother.

Zombie's right. I live in a tropical country so I need 15w/40 or 20w/50. Also buying one gallon is not that too much.

the temperature typically varies from 37°F to 95°F, since we going to the "hot" months what is best oil for hot weathers. also I have a heavy hand on the throttle.

15w /40 or straight SAE40, or even a 20w/40 if you ride hard.
