Who cut my cdi?
« on: April 20, 2012, 07:07:59 PM »
Hi folks

Can anyone tell me if the below is a CDI that has been cut, or not?

Also is it possible that an incorrectly cut CDI can result in a slight loss of power

..looks like its been cut and epoxied over. .

..but no, cutting cdi incorrectly is virtually impossible, and will not result in rpm loss...

thanks guys. blue it works fine, i'm just trying to work out if it has been cut or not - can anyone answer for sure?

I still have very average performance on my scoot so I'm just trying to identify the cause. But from what wordslinger has said (thanks wordslinger), it's unlikely to be my cdi that is the problem.

Back to randomly replacing everything I guess....

Try replacing the CDI and see the difference in performance.

from the look of the pic it has had the ordinary hacksaw treatment, i can see were the cut is from the pic. i could even opint out where it has been cut.....if you wanted

thanks whitenight.
yes i think you're right there does seem to be a cut line amongst the epoxy. will go check on the thing itself. I do get 40mph out of it (on the speedo at least) so I think the cut has been done correctly. I just have poor acceleration.

i have a derestricted drive boss.

valve clearance is normal.

I think compression might be the problem.  i have a compression tester but annoyingly it wont fit in the hole in the agility due to constrained space.

incidentally idle mixture screw seems to have no effect however it's turned and the thing loves to idle low and cut out. Idon't know if that is symptomatic of a general fuel line problem which might be causing my generally poor power (in particular acceleration)

First it was cut not burned. The epoxy is peaky from application.
Second cutting the cdi does nothing for performance. I will only allow the engine to rev to it's peak.
Third it sounds like your idle jet or mix port is clogged. Start by disassembling the carb, and cleaning everything.
Lastly the cdi was cut/epoxied to protect it by Yolanda Greene. She lives in New Jersey.
