A friend of mine with whom I used to ride motorcycles early in 2000s died this weekend riding his XJR1300, he was 33 y.o.. He was wearing full gear including jacket, gloves, helmet, trousers and shoes.
The speed was also low/moderate. He hit a spot of unknown liquid on the asphalt (oil or transmission fluid), probably highsided and hit the fence pole. Dead on spot.
I will not post the pictures, even though they are on the Internet.
I am all for the riding gear, but what really kills people on two wheels are rocks by the side of the road and traffic signs/poles. This is the second person I know that dies this way, a colleague of mine died exactly two summers ago one mile away from office when he hit "no parking poles" at a very low speed and died from internal injuries.
This is why you can lowside on racing track at 150 mph and walk away with a bad memory and die at 10 mph in traffic.
