First Complaint - Need Larger Top Case
« on: April 27, 2012, 04:42:06 PM »
I finally broke down and bought a full-face helmet - a Shoei Qwest. The trouble is the top case won't accomodate it!!  ???

Has anyone replaced the top case - or know who manufactures one that will fit without major modifications?

Regardless of which brand you go with, the "modifications" needed will be the same.
Don't make the mistake of buying the topcase that you feel is adequate.
Buy as big as possible.

Old Scoot, The just gotta scoot guy on their website mounted a Shad topcase without much fanfare. I have a Shad 46 on my old BV and was pretty happy with it. I am thinking of mounting a Shad 40 cargo on the gti as I could use the "cargo rack" on the top for my measuring wheel. The Shads can all be opened without a key like the Givi monokeys.

Excellent advice Cortez.  I started by wimping out and looking at cases just slightly bigger than the OEM. It then occurred to me - prompted by your advice -- to consider how much more functional my scoot would be if I could carry more stuff.  Especially since I'm taking a three day trip into the Texas hill country next weekend.  I bought a Givi E450 in matte black. It comes with a "universal" mounting block.  I'll give y'all a review when I get a chance to use. it.

When I bought my first bike in 2007, I figured helmet+random crap of storage would be enough
and bought a 35l case. It took a week to realize I was wrong. The only reason I didn't get a
bigger one in the first place was because of how it matches (or doesn't) the bike visually.

Fast forward to today - got a scoot with 60l of storage, and bough top of the line 50l SHAD
topcase. Never even thought twice about it.

Even with 110l of storage now,  I could still use the tunnel bag.

Hepco Becker has a 52l topcase that looks pretty sweet. http://secure.machinesllc.com/Journey-Top-Case-52_p_2671.html
Especially with the rack on it. http://secure.machinesllc.com/Top-Case-Rack--Journey-TC52_p_232.html

They also have a 45l that will fit 2 helmets http://secure.machinesllc.com/Junior-45-Top-Case_p_182.html
