Kymco Yup 50 too fast for stock?
« on: April 29, 2012, 06:32:26 PM »
Hello everyone,

So I just picked up a 2001 Yup 50 for $100...... Starts right up every time and runs great. The only thing is missing a few body parts (bottom skirts on both sides and under seat cover). So I figured being 49cc and me @ 220lbs that I would be lucky to break 40mph....... To my suprise though I can hit 47/48mph with no problem. So is this little 2 stroke this fast or has someone tuned/de-restricted it? How to tell without tearing apart?

Thanks and happy to find this forum (Although there's no "YUP" section.... What's up with that?)

BTW: Speedo is correct as I used my GPS to confirm speed. Also, It isn't over powerful taking off, But as stated I can hit right near 50mph after a few blocks.

Any knowledge here would be appreciated ;)

Most air cooler 50cc scooters will do at least 40mph, even the 4 stroke scoots with
just 2-3hp so it's not surprise yours will do more. 2 stroke air cooled 50cc scoots
are usually in the 3,x to 4hp category.

Water cooled 50cc 2 stroke scoots are in the 4-6hp bracket and do anywhere from
45 to 55mph indicated.

Some have less accurate speedos then others, though.
And your weight won't do much for the top speed, however it will do a lot with
your acceleration.

You will have to call for ordering Yup parts. Mention the forum for a 10% discount.

Hello sir,

Where did you find your horsepower figures?  I recently got a dyno, and those numbers are pretty much what I'm seeing.  Many 50cc 4T scooters in the 2ish HP range, and my People 50 comes in at about 4.5 HP.  A buddies SYM Jet Euro with a Malossi sport shows 6.45...

Um, yeah, it's from my head, sorry.  ;D

I've been working with scoots since 2004, few different brands since then
(peugeot, kymco, sym, some chinese crap etc), then worked at a newspaper
where I wrote for the car/bike section, and from last December I'm again in
the bike industry so.. these figures tend to remain in my head.

No dyno stuff, just manufacturer rated power.
Some of the most powerful 2 stroke 50cc STOCK bikes were based on the piaggio engine
used in Gilera Runner, Piaggio NRG and Aprilia SR50. Yamaha Aerox was up there too, and
later on, the Peugeot Jetforce C-TECH.

All of these could hit almost 55mph stock and had suspension and brakes to match.
But I digress..

With what? That your scoot is Too good? Ok!
