Where i work an engineer is paid £23-£25,000 per year for working 37 hrs a week with 5-6 wks holiday every year (not inc national holidays, we get them too).  Thats about €28-€31,000 a year we get here.

My ex. colleague works now in Finland. He bought 60 m2 apartment for 500.000 EUR.
As we already spoke, my friend from your country bought a very nice house for 35.000 EUR.

We can now talk about quality of life and differences between Philippines and Finland, but I would say that my tagalog speaking friend is actually BETTER PAID than my colleague in Finland, if we account for the purchasing power parity in the equation! He can buy several times more goods than the other guy even though his salary is half of the salary of the other guy.

I get what you mean about quality lf life too. I lived and worked in S.Africa for almost a year and a half and tho i got a good wage by S.A standards, if i converted it to £'s then i earned less than i did as an apprentice. The cost of living was a lot cheaper in S.A so i could lead a comfortable life for way less than i needed in Scotland. The only problem came when i left to return home, when i converted my saving to £'s i had very little. I did have a good time there tho so it was worth going.

Not really... Just the way it has always been there. It is the same here in North Florida. The families here were soo remote from other people that inbreeding just happens. outsiders were looked on as lessor people or just unwelcome. Same with the "royals". The fact of the matter is it still continues whether by choice or accident... Remote populations just narrow the gene pool. I'm sure some of my ancestors are "closer" than most would want. Ireland is a relatively small island, and with the Clan system... who knows.

Thanks, it goes a long way. Just so you all get a better feel for me I'll lay a bit out for you all. I do lean towards the right in my politics, I prefer Ron Paul for pres if you know anything about him you'll know what I like about him. Obama and Mitt are one in the same and America is in serious trouble no matter which one takes office. I'm well aware of the royal's background and that Prince Charles is in fact Greek if I'm not mistaken.

For what it's worth I'm American from Germany, Wales and American Indian. Keep in mind it's not wwhat a woman looks like in the end it's what she brings to the table that matters, for Charles Di didn't do it anymore, Camilla must. As an outsider i was over the moon when Obama got in, i really thought he was going to change the world for the better after G.W almost destroyed it. Like Zombie says tho, he failed to deliver on so many fronts i can only describe his 1st term as a failure. I totally accelt he was left a crock of sh** by Bush and also had the economic downturn to deal with but he sold out within the 1st yr as far as i can see. Gitmo's still open, "prisoners" there still are not tried in a proper court of law, war still rages in Afghanistan, Iraq is f***ed, the poor are poorer, the rich are richer, Israel still has too much sway over US foreign policy (who knows why?), whatever you think of the Occupy movement it was a mass call for change but he basically ignored it and the big bonuses etc continue, promised "Obamacare" but failed, he just seems to talk a good game then fails to deliver the goods.  I could go on but im sure as Americans you all know where he failed. I have no doubt he has been a million miles better than Palin/McCain wouldve been for the US and the world, had McCain won then you would prob be in Iran right now, bogged down in another unwinable war.

I just wish the US president and the UK prime minister would stop talking sh** and do something to improve things. Change our foreign policies, stop trying to rule the world, bullies never win in the longrun,  just try being f***ing nice to people for a change and see how that works?

If i was American i would prob vote Obama, not because i think he is perfect but because he seems tbe least bad of all the crowd on offer. I dont know much about Ron Paul but i have heard a lot of Americans saying what 08087 says, he seems to impress a lot of people. Then again would he not just sell out like the rest once he got in? I receive an equivalent of around 11,000 Euros a year here (Philippines). Have a nice 4 bedroom 2-storey house, 3 cars, 2 bikes, 5 TVs, 15 wrist watches, children enrolled in private schools... and thinking of buying a small place near the beach for retirement... life's good...
