stripped my clutch bell nut today
« on: May 06, 2012, 10:19:17 PM »
Working on my scoot earlier, had stripped down the whole cvt etc and cleaned it all up, put it all back, just had to tighten up the clutch nut but when i went to fit it i saw it had stripped inside the nut thread, shaft is fine, guess the nuts made of softer metal to prevent damage to the shaft by striping 1st.

Anyway i need a new nut asap, does anyone know off had what size i need? Its M10 but a tighter thread than the m10 nut i had in my garage,do you think i could pick on up temp from a hardware store that would work till i can order a new proper one?

Cant even take the old one to compare threADS COS ITS SO STRIPPED OUT,(whoops caps) dont think the store would be happy if i dragged my scoot in to try some on it either  :D

So anyone know what im looking for M10 what?

There are three M10 threads, 1.50-1.25-1,00. I forget which one but they are all at the hardware store. Since the new one won't be a crimp nut I'd use blue Lok Tite. The whole shebang will run you under 5 bucks

Cheers Z. Im off tomorrow anyway cos its May day bank holiday here so i can try pick one up tomorrow hopefully cos i need to ride to work Monday. Just hope all the shops arent closed for the holiday too  :-\

Ive been walking around the house and garden earlier looking for stuff with m10 nuts on it to steal one off and try but i cant find a damn thing anywhere. Kids bike? No. Kids swing? No. Barbeque? No. Table? No.  It wasnt till i went upstairs with a spanner to check out the bed that my wife noticed and soon told me where to go  :D

I did even have some other threaded ones in my garage but who knows where? I really need to get a clearout and tidy up in there.

Man, can you believe i just spent 3hrs driving around Glasgow in the car looking for a nut and could get one in ANY shop  >:(

Tried hardware stores, cycle shops, motorcycle shops, diy shops but noone had any the thread i needed  ???

Gave up and resigned to busing it to work tomorrow till i can order one online, so headed home...........then...........

1 mile from my house i passed a local small garage where i know the owner, expected he'd be closed for the holiday today but he was open, took me in, had a 5min rummage in his spare nuts tub and got one  ;D Amazing stoke of luck or karma i dont know. I do kno im not bussing it tomorrow tho cos it fits a dream. All good now, back up and rolling again  ;D ;D  ;D
