Stock CDI: Seeking thoughts on replacement
« on: May 13, 2012, 02:09:06 PM »
Although the official line is "not restricted", I can't help but think otherwise. At the very least, there has to be another option with improved curve.
At any rate, here are some pics in the hopes that someone out there can add to the discussion.

CDI in place.
I assume it is DC, as the lights turn on when the key is switched to "on" prior to engine start.

Anyone know where I can get a CDI for the 2 stroke? All I can find is this http://online.mortch.com/MIHPCDI-KYMSUP8-LEJ2-KYMCO-SUPER8 which is for the 4 stroke models.

They have these at Racing Planet, but they're listed as 4-stroke.  Looks like the connector is the same, but without knowing for sure if it'll work I wouldn't buy it.

I don't have the cash to test it out, but I wouldn't be surprised if it worked. From what I can tell, the Like 50 2t is odd-man out when it comes to cdi's. Looking through the schematics at Stadium, other 2 stroke Kymcos use a different style (though all with similar plug) and it would appear that the 2 stroke version of the like has had a only a few modifications to transition from the 4 stroke and 125 versions. At any rate thank you and Zombie for helping us try to figure this anomaly out.

I wouldn't be surprised if it worked either.  You can actually plug a cheap GY6 4-stroke CDI into the air-cooled 2-stroke Super 9, and it'll run.  It's not great, but it'll run.  This Naraku CDI for Kymco might be a ticket.  I'll send you a PM.

There is a 2-stroke CDI from Naraku that I found online and replaced the Kymco restricted one. Works perfect! It was a little more expensive that the 4 stroke CDI.
