Battery problems
« on: May 28, 2012, 07:29:32 AM »
Hi Guys, new to the forum, nice to meet you all

I have a 2006 Grand Dink/Vista.

I am running out of electricity. I can charge the battery and the bike starts and runs fine. If I run the bike for half an hour or more with the lights on, there is not sufficient juice left in the battery to start the bike again.

What is the most likely problem ?

Rectifier ?

Stator ?

Battery

Appreciate your input on this please

thanks

Thanks, have done all that.

The problem appears to be that the battery runs down when the bike is running, leading me to believe it is not the battery that is at fault but a problem with the charging system somewhere.

If your battery drains, that only means that electricity in not being replenished. You can check your stator using a multitester while engine is running.

Put scoot on center stand.

Turn on the engine.. battery will read 12 volts or a little bit more.

Turn on head light and rev engine.. battery voltage will increase to about 13 or more.

This means your battery is charging. If voltage remains the same, battery is not charging.

My rectifier went on my a50, would charge it up and get maybe 3-5 days out of it starting on elec start then it'd be flat again. Lights werecalways dim too apart from passing light and brake on light.
Chaos is my co-pilot.
