Problems with gas gauge
« on: June 06, 2012, 11:53:10 AM »
Has anyone ever had a problem where the gas gauge doesnt register the fuel level and if so what do i do to fix the problem. I just noticed it today when I was out riding my kymco agility 50. There is fuel in the tank

Was it almost empty? My gauge stays full for ages then once it begins to drop it drops in a day or 2 at most. Theyre not the best for accuracy.

The float comes out with a simple 1/4 turn lock ring. If that is the problem.
Check all the wiring first. The gauge is steel inside so they do tend to rust out from Ethanol fuels.

Ok, so i may not get 2 days out of it.

Normally once it starts to drop i know i have enough fuel to get to work and back for a day and will need to refill the next on my way home at the latest. If im out playing after work tho it will need filled that day.

My gauge is the same the first 2 - 3 days it will stay on full then over the next 2 days slowly start moving down towards empty I would say with my scoot still restricted I'm easily getting over 100mpg.....
IF IT IS NOT BROKE DONT FIX IT:)

Even tho mine only has 2 speeds, stopped or WOT, i still get 5 days commute to work from a full tank, 19-20 miles/day minimum, 100 miles for £5.50, cant complain about that   ;D

TBH i didnt notice any significant fuel consumption increase after derestricting. Just more speed and more smiles  :)

I took it the local kymco dealer and they told me what had happened to cause this problem. The problem was simply put the float got caught up in the tank so it stayed on empty even while the tank was completely full of 91 octane gas. Thank you everyone for all of your insight as to be what could have been the cause, it was a great help when i told the technician what it could have been.

My fuel gauge is f***ed too. :p
For the first 2 liters, it stay at max, then over one liter it goes to the bottom, and when it is in the red, i still have 2 liters to go. :p
So it has come to that i look more at the odometer than at the fuel gauge, when i'd like to know how much fuel i've got left. ;)
