Trans oil change
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:51:10 PM »
Today I changed my trans oil. Everytime in the past when I took out the top fill hole bolt, the trans oil would always seep out of the hole as if it was topped off. This is how I could see how dark the oil was getting. The manual says to put in 0.48 US quart, or just under 1/2 quart. Is this amount right as now it does not seep out? I put in about a half quart exactly, so this should have over filled it by a tiny amount. Is a half a quart ok, or should I top it off? I don't want it to be underfilled, but I don't want to have to much in and build up pressure and blow out a gasket or something. Any thoughts? :-\ :-*

My People 250 slowly leaks gearbox oil out through the output drive seal if it's overfilled.  Messes the wheel with oil, but no damage occurs.
You can use a bent wire or "allen wrench" to check the oil level if you want to run it at or slightly below the check bolt level.  This is what I do now with my scoot' to keep it clean with no issues.

There's not much pressure in the tranny as it does in the engine so no need to worry about pressure. Just put the right amount without overfilling.

Besides your tranny has a pressure relief hose going into the air box.  I think you should be fine.  Mine never was quite up to the bolt and it was changed at the dealer before I got it.
