Givi windshield for X500Ri. 076-D293ST
« on: June 20, 2012, 05:41:17 PM »
After finally giving up on Isotta for the windshield I wanted (discontinued but they forgot to remove it from the web site) I went to the local GIVI distributor and although he was helpful he said that they had no screen that would fit my 2008 X500Ri.  WRONG!  I took the advice of another X 500 rider and bought the Givi 076-D293ST from A Vicious Cycle (bought the K-21 Kappa cases, Barkbuster hand guards there too).  It took me less than 5 minutes to switch it with the previous "tall" screen and boy is it bigger and taller.  84cm x 64 cm with hand wind guards.(causes a bit of a problem with the full hand gaurds but it's flexible and only hinders at crawling speed to turn the bike around.  No problem on the highway).
What a difference!   No more buffeting around the head, I can even drive without earplugs but will still wear them and no stability issues.  It might take a bit more gas but it's strong enough to push it and the additional comfort makes a world of difference.  I have 2 diablo horns left to install and that's it for now. (until I see the next gadget I can't live without).  NOW

oops-------Now it's fun and comfortable to drive at 120-130 without having my head feel like it's being torn off of my shoulders.  Rest of the summer should be great.

I've tried rain away with moderate success.  I'll look up Nu finish and give it a try because they're announcing rain for the next week. (I don't mind because I've got great rain gear.

Have a safe summer.

Nu-Finish works great but even much better on top of that is RainX. I put it on my face mask and the water blows away totally.

Anyone try the Invisible Glass with Rain Repellant by Stoner?

http://www.invisibleglass.com/RainRepellent.htm

Works well on my car windows, haven't tried it on the scoot yet, but will.

I took off my givi windscreen and went back to the stock.

It's only for the fact that it's so gosh darn hot that I did it.

That givi windscreen made the 600 mile ride back from AMERIVESPA 2012 a pretty enjoyable experience.  It wasn't until I found myself back in my old commuting mode and sitting in traffic in 104 temps, that I realized the downside to givi.

New Ride, New Windshield, New to Forum
« Reply #11 on: January 11, 2013, 12:20:04 PM »
Bought my scoot second hand this past fall.  It replaced by dead Honda Reflex.  Love the power, but a bit sub-par on the fit and finish and ride quality, especially the no-windshield.  Couldn't ride it comfortably, do a lot of highway miles.  Found the Givi at local scoot shop, installed it, and wow, what a difference!  I can now ride anytime, anywhere.  Before Givi, was thinking of getting rid of her.  Now, have my trusty steed back but with much more power.  Pre-Givi, 40MPG, 7500RPM at 75MPH.  Post-Givi, ?MPG, 6500RPM at 75MPH (includes new oil, air filter, plugs).  So yeah, not only am I super comfy, but have a much smoother ride at highway speeds and positive the MPG will help pay for Givi within no time!

Do have the squeak noise but will find the cure on this forum once I have a chance to find it.  Have already found many answers on here so thanks to all of you!!!

Cheers all

P.S.  with the new maxi-shield, my white maxi-scoot looks like a cop bike  8)

I have had the GIVI screens on a few maxiscooters. When I got one for my X500 I did not expect it to be so tall and close to the rider. I am 6'3" so the height and quietness is nice, bit I do hit my helmet on it sometimes when getting off. Also, I am not crazy about looking through the shield. Thus, I am working on a kit to mount the windshield a bit more upright to get more room behind it. Assuming I get this worked out, I'll trim the windshield in a euro-cut shape.  We'll see.

Be careful what you put on a screen. They are made of different plastics some of which
might be damaged by the chemical and cause it to degrade in the sun.

I have a half helmet I use in the summer that I put some reflective lines on. With that and my
Joe Rocket jacket I look like a cop. When I'm out riding around people pull over and let me go
by! He He!

What's the cost - generally speaking - of a Givi winshield?  Any other's that will fit a 08 model?
