Got it yesterday
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:54:04 AM »
Hey everyone. Got the x500ri yesterday.  I think its going to be pretty nice!!! Feels small compared to the big 600 + lbs Concours but seems to have plenty of power.  I will update as the miles rack up.  I put on 110 yesterday.
What windshields will work on it?  I need a taller one.  Also do you think a JC Whitney top box would work?  Thanks everyone

Congratulations   ;D  Isn't it fun?
The tall Givi windshield works on the new ones and gives very good wind protection.  They changed the location of the mirrors a couple of years ago and with the mirrors now mounted on the handlebars they will bump against the windshield in very tight turns like when you are parking or moving it around in the garage, not a problem when actually driving.  Mirror extensions should solve the problem.  I put the black Shad 37 liter box on mine, retail was about $199.  Talk to Bo at Station Park, he got both for me and saved me money.  The Givi looks a little strange at first, but is very effective.

This break-in is h%$l  .  I am trying to stay off of it , but it is hard.  I now have 154 miles on it and like winginman said, it does seem to get smoother with each mile.  Its been raining here in the Louisville area long enough that I am thinking of building an ark. So , I cant get the 600 on it soon enough. The owners manual says break in to 1000 miles!!!!!!. The mechanic said the first 50 were the most important than let it go. I really dont know what to do.  I am thinking about 300 to 400 miles then start  letting her go a little more.
I like the scooter. It is easy to handel, and does well it the twisty stuff. Its even  pretty good on the interstate.  I think once I can get on it a little more, I can give a much better opinion.  It rides well and the sitting positing is good.  My back hurts a little, but it did when I first started riding the Connie. I think its just a matter of getting used to it.
The breaks are fine. The only concern is the storage under the seat, but I knew that going in. I didnt buy it based on how much it would hold under the seat. There are too many other REALLY good things about this scooter.
If anyone has opinions on the break in let me know. Thanks (

The german manual says nothing about break in.
Our break in is usual up to the first service, for kymco germany after 500km.
Then change fluids and open throttle.

hey, I have been working on engines for 35 years, and MY OPIONION is break in is exactly what it sounds like. If something is going to break it will usually happen within the first few hundred miles. there is a purpose to letting parts wear in together.(production tollerances, the assembler who had a bad day, the new machine on the line, ect...) I have found if you ONLY ride at a certian rpm the parts will "seat" themselves to that condition, and when you change that condition it's like your little brother jumping out of your closet. the machine does'nt know how to react. I am a firm believer in varring your rpm's, and tourque load on ANY multi use engine. Now I do not say to drop the hammer on a newly built engine, but hit it for a few moments , and let the parts see whats in the closet (so to speak) As always the best Quality fluids, regular changes, and maintenance are the real key to a dependable engine. I hope Everyone understands this is only MY opinion.
