2005 2-stroke People 50 fuel filter
« on: July 01, 2012, 10:27:30 PM »
I have a 2-stroke People 50 (2005) that has a bad fuel filter.  I've had it at a local shop that sells and services Kymco scooters for almost a month waiting for a new filter to come in.  Apparently they're back-ordered at Kymco America.  Does anyone know of another supplier of this part?  I'm getting frustrated about having to wait so long.

Any universal in-line fuel filter will work. Thing is you have to find one that fits the tiny fuel lines on these things. 1/8" - 3/16" universal in-line filter will work. You can find them on eBay or maybe a small engine shop locally.

I read about replacing the Kymco fuel filter with a standard one from the auto store. It is difficult to find Kymco filters even at the dealer.
I have a 2003 People 50. The fuel filter casing has 3 tubes connected yet the new filters only have two connections. What do you do with #3?
Also, how do you add brake fluid? I can see the level from the right handle (throttle) however the cover seems almost impossible to remove? Any suggestions?
Thanks for any assistance to this newbie from Denver.

..are you sure that you are looking at the filter, or the fuel petcock?

..the filter only has an inlet and outlet..the vacuum operated petcock has three tubes...

Ok, you're right. I should have know that  :-[ :D

Anyway, on the ppl the fuel filter doubles as the auto cock. This is a vacuum controlled valve that shuts when the engine isn't running. So the third line on top is a vacuum line. You can either install a universal filter as well as a manual valve, or you can order an OEM assembly. Here's a link to an OEM parts supplier, Stadium Yamaha. They usually have the best prices around. I think you can mention the forum and get a discount  :)

Item 379 is what you're talking about right?

...

BTW, welcome to the forum  :)

Right, there is a filter element in there as well. The bowl screws off the bottom.

My 2003 looks a little different than the photo. On the right rear under the seat there is a case with two screws holding a casing. Unscrew the case and inside is a fuel filter. I'm still cinfused as to what to do with the 3rd tube but I will contact the link that was sent.

Also, any suggestions regarding adding brake fluid? I can see the level from the right side of the throttle. The front is difficult to remove. Is the CDI under there also?

The brake reservoir is a pain to get to. I believe you have to remove the mirrors, turn signals, and all the screws. There is a bolt right up underneath the headlight too. Then the cover just pops off. Remove the master cylinder reservoir cover and fill it halfway up the sight glass.

The filter/auto cock is in wordslingers pic. It is the black plastic cylinder with a flange at the top where it bolts on.
