Quality of manufacture
« on: July 03, 2012, 03:26:31 AM »
I am starting to doubt the quality of workmanship.  Solenoid nuts were barely finger-tight.  Like they were tightened with a thumb qnd pinkie!  Tightened reasonably and it quit working. Loosened negative nut an eighth turn and it works.  I'm not impressed with the quality much. Some trim screws are cross threaded in the clips.  My front outside brake pad was also installed behind the spring clip instead of atop the clip.  This caused the pad to contact the disc at a 20 degree angle instead of parallel with the disc.  I dunno. I like the price (like a ruckus) so I guess putzing with my like is my new hobby.

Maybe the person who assembled the scoot just had a bad day.... it happens...

Sorry to hear that. Kymco quality is usually at least above par. Maybe not quite as good as Japanese.

My scoot had loose bolts on exhaust shield and the fuel filter wasn't tight enough and started leaking after about 6 months(just had to tighten it up a little). Nothing major though. The quality is there, just not quite enough attention to detail in assembly.

I'll check the filter and hear shield for sure.  I'd expect any other facility would iron out their quality issues.  Wonder if there's any animosity in the Mainland working for the Taiwanese.

My thoughts are this: You might get a nice Kymco made on the mainland, and you might not.

Your chances are a lot better with those made in Taiwan.

IMO.

Not going to argue this. I've observed this from the dealer's standpoint for about five years, now. I'm not upset if you don't agree with me, 'cause I have a Taiwanese Kymco.  :)

Even Honda workers screw up sometimes, I found a loose hose clamp on my Silverwing.
No company is exempt from a loose screw once in a while.

You have to look at the big picture, not a single incident. Honda has a great rep but even so, there are problems every now and then.  Take Chinese branded scooters... they are plagued by issues.  Kymco, on the other hand, has very few problems in the grand scheme of things.  I am very satisfied with my purchase and have had zero issues.

You've got no argument here.  Being able to leave $1000 MSRP on the table was pretty aggressive on their part.

Makes me wonder how those mainland counterfeit semiconductors are holding up for the pentagon.
