And so it begins.....
« on: July 03, 2012, 11:18:16 PM »
I've had my 2008 People 50 2T since December, and have been riding it a lot this spring and summer.
I'm very happy with the scooter, but have decided I'd like a little more "umph" from a stop and on hills, so I'm going to jump into some upgrades.

I'm planning on doing an exhaust upgrade.
I've been trying to read up on the forum on what all I need/need to do, but jumping from thread to thread can get a little confusing. So, a little help/guidance would be nice.

Here is what i'm planning on ordering...
Leo Vince exhaust (yes, I know the technigas is preferred in here, but I've been convinced to get the LV), Uni air filter, Jets, rollers, spark plugs
I'm holding off on the clutch springs for now, until I see how it rides.
Is there anything else i need to get?

Get a stiffer contra spring over the clutch springs. Clutch springs only affect the initial take off.  Or get both they're not that much and you're paying shipping anyway. Won't hurt to hold off on the springs for now if you have to. The contra spring does make a big difference though.

Looks like you've done your homework :)

What's the weight of the new rollers?

Just make sure you get the jetting right or you'll be redoing the top end before you want to  :'(

Ah yes, I'm doing a contra spring as well.
As far as the rollers, my mechanic has access to a kit, so we'll playing with them and then I'm going to buy sliders once we find the sweet spot.

Jetting, I'm guessing that 95 is a good starting point from what I've seen on here.

 :D :D :D

Tecnigas makes a good pipe

Having a bunch of different rollers is the way to go  :)

Just curious where you are getting your contra spring from?  I was thinking of doing the same, not sure how to identify it or where to buy...

It can be called contra, torque, or torsion spring. It's the large spring inside the rear pulley. Here are the ones I have. Probably not the best quality but they work for me.

I found out my CDI hasn't been modded. Is that a "must" to do as well? I can cruise around 40-45mph as it is now.

Must do. Same for Ign coil.

Ok, I've been digging around the forums and the interwebs and I can't seem to find a straight answer on the CDI for a 2008 People 50 2T.
Is it restricted or not? And if it is, where is it located, and what needs to be done to derestrict it (cut the green wire or the box?)?

I haven't looked into the ignition coil, what benefit does that offer?

Thanks!

Racing Planet has the cdi you need. Yours is not restricted per say but is limited in performance after 9k rpm. Your OEM cdi will work fine for most sport kits. The coil adds voltage. The higher the voltage the hotter the spark/the more complete the burn.

I finally got confirmation on the CDI's from a couple sources.  For the 2 Stroke Kymco People 50's, the CDI is in fact the larger DC unit.  If your CDI has a green wire coming out of it, then it is the restricted version (that is, if you plug the green wire in).  The earlier CDI's (like the one in my 2001 People 50), do not have a green wire visible on the outside, and are not restricted (according to the Kymco dealer).

I have asked about coils as well, and I know the aftermarket ones are supposed to have a hotter spark, and I don't think there is any difference between a 2 stroke or 4 stroke coil, as long as you get the one with 2 spade connectors on the end, and the same mount style as our bikes take.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I opted to run the original CDI on my BBK, and it works great.  Then again, I haven't tried the aftermarket CDI to know the difference.  Not sure if I will be doing a lot of riding above 9K rpm anyway.

The 2t, and 4t coils are in fact different. It's the winding size. They have to saturate at different rates so be sure to get a 2t/dc version

I need to get you on speed dial, Zombie! lol

So, the OEM CDI is fine, or upgrading it would be of significant benefit?
