Just bought a 2012 Silver Kymco 300 GTI
« on: July 04, 2012, 12:18:48 AM »
Hey guys,

It's nice to see a forum on these bikes. I have lived in Rome Italy for about 8 years and have owned 4 scooters in my time there. Since I moved back to the USA I wanted to buy another one and settled on the Kymco 300i. These bikes are duro, considering I saw a lot of them in Rome. A friend of mine have a people 200 and dumped it many times and it still got up and kept going.  WHile I lived in Rome I owned the following scooters

Honda SH50
Aprilia SR50
Gilera Runner 180
Honda SH150

I have seen other options for Windshields and Top Cases which may interest you. The windscreen mounts may need to be adjusted because of US spec turn signals, but the top cases are not too bad

For windscreens
http://www.carpimoto.com/EN/Bike_Kymco_People-125-300-GTi/Specific/

For windscreens and top case(The fitting kit allows for GIVI top cases to be used(Monoblock)
http://www.tagoscooter.com/en/kymco/473_300_people_gti_2010-/

I will eventually get a screen and GIVI case for the bike, but at the moment I am modding my 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 so all my monies are going there ;)

Also if anyone has access to a maintenence manual, it would be nice to see. Stupid dealer didnt even know there was an oil filter on this bike...he thought it was only a screen

This is the weirdest thing, but when I went to my dealer to take a look at a gold 300GTi, the dealer mentioned that someone from Rome had recently purchased the silver one! Did you happen to purchase from Razee in Rhode Island or is this a massive coincidence?

Congrats on the scoot!

evilserat,
yeah that was me. I bought my scooter at Razee's in May. It has been a great scooter and I have tooled around Providence in it. I have taken a few trips to Newport and it has been a blast to ride on. I got the parts manager to order some oil filters for the bike because I am coming up on my 600 mile check up. I think they had another silver 300i in the garage because they mixed my bike up with that one and they had to redo my registration. THe gold  color looked interesting, but i prefer the more conservative silver color. I would have liked this model in white...It is definately worth the purchase.

That's fantastic. How has the People handled on the highways around here? My major concern is that it may take a beating on 95 on a commute from Warwick to West Kingston. Would you say it feels relatively solid at highway speeds?

I had it on 195 with no problems doing 70 on average. It's very stable and comfortable on the highway.  I would probably recommend getting a windscreen eventually because there some wind buffeting on the chest, but you also have good leg protection due to the fairing. Right now all my money is going into modding my Mazdaspeed3. I'll probably buy a windscreen and new top case this winter and install them. Its a good all around bike city/highway/beach etc...

Congrats on your new GT300i! I purchased one yesterday (Silver as well) I'll be taking delivery mid-next week. I....like you, wanted Silver (over Black & Gold) I'm bummed out that Kymco doesn't make the standard Blood-Red anymore & they have black rims. I always loved Red w/ Silver rims. I can live with it. Good Luck with your GT300i. Are you thinking synthetic oil?

I highly recommend Amsoil. Not cheap, a little on tougher side to find as well, but the best on the market IMHO. There are a lot of other good choices out there aside from Amsoil.

Also...75W-90W Transmission Oil:

Good Luck!

Amsoil is easy to find in Nashville. It's like Avon/Mary Kay for Manly Men... seems every garage & shadetree mechanic is selling it.

Amsoil is good oil bit it is not the Holy Grail of oil..There are oils just as good that are less expensive.

Amsoil is a small company with only blending facilities, they don't have refineries to produce synthetic base stock oils.. Who do they buy these pao base stock oils from???

Their major supplier of PAO base stock is Exxon/Mobil, the largest producer of synthetic oils in the world. They purchase some Group III base stocks from Shell, Petro Canada, and others. About 90% of their additive packages come from Lubrizoil.

Exxon/Mobil supply many other oil producers with synthetic base stocks as well

Interesting about your comments on Amsoil. Very informative. Maybe it's marketing hype....but so many people (since say 10 years ago) have always sworn by Amsoil. I have a dealer like 5 miles away & I'll still stick with him & Amsoil. Yes...Amsoil is more expensive, but it's not much more. I never know that Lubizoil makes 90% of their additives. Good stuff to know Old Scoot!

I'm pulling myself up by my bootstraps and refining my own oil and gasoline, now. Y'know, it's really not that much more difficult than making a good ravoli from scratch.

Yeah, Amsoil makes a good oil but I just can't get past their outlandish marketing hype ( some of them questionable) so I use other brands.

Don't care for their multi level marketing for sales either.

I have never seen the silver color. The dealerships here always have the black and gold.
Wish Kymco offered a white one :-(

Should have been out boating today up here in Gloucester, MA., but the wife wanted to do some other things (season coming to an end soon)

Just washed my GT300i & once it's dry, I'll be taking some pics & I'll post them here. I'm @ 721 miles so far! Just had my first engine/gear oil change on Friday.

I'll post some pics later today. My local dealer had one Black in-stock, one Gold sold & he had to pull my Silver from another dealer 45 miles away. It all worked out in the end.
