Added 12V plug for GPS and windscreen
« on: July 07, 2012, 08:45:17 PM »
I added a Slipstreamer Scoot66 windscreen and an external "all weather" 12V plug so I can plug in my GPS while I ride.

The install look Great,  but the dangling power cord from the GPS makes a potential "trip" danger.
(Sorry, but I had to get that in!)  Do you have a plan to corral the power cord ?

Thanks for showing off your work

Ride safely,

When I'm riding I can thread the GPS cord through the bag hook too keep it away from my feet. I will just have to remember to unplug it and move it out of the way before dismounting. It would be pretty embarrassing to trip over the cord and have my scooter fall on me.

Nice work Wiz!
I like your setup. I don't think that the cable is a problem. One thing though, you could get is a smaller (some are really tiny) 12V plug to USB and get another cable (USB to mini or micro USB for your GPS unit) so it's not really in your way when you leave your scoot.

I am not too familiar with the GT300i but I believe that the battery is under the seat.
If so, did you remove all the panels in order to pass the cable underneath?

The battery is under the floorboard. I only had to remove the access panel for adding coolant (that's where I made the hole for the plug) and the cover on the floor over the battery. I have one of those grabber type pick up tools that I used to help me route the wires.

The windshield at is fine at high speeds. It does a good job of blocking the wind.
I did loose about 5mph, the top speed dropped from 85 to 80. I try not to drive that fast anyway so it doesn't bother me.

This is in the People GT 300i section of the forum, so ... it's a People GT 300i. As far as price, here in the states the retail is $5400. I don't know what it goes for in other countries.
